Re: Seiden's Furs Appears to Be Closing
In 2004 or 2005, an excellent coffee shop opened attached to Sienna Bistro, not 100 feet away, and it failed in less than two months. What makes anyone think it'd work now?

The world-renowned Seiden's Furs mannequins have been removed.

You of all people should know better than to ask me that question. I took the photos.
I figured you bought the mannequins PS. I envisioned you posing them in to your bedroom in a series of lesbian acts.

I liked those manequins. They were always dressed really tacky, but they had great form.

Re: Seiden's Furs Appears to Be Closing
I was wondering about the arms myself. When the Jones Store was liquidating their fixtures I bought a leg for $5. Not sure what happened to it. Good times.
I sure hope this place becomes retail. The vault in the basement is kick ass. I want to know what the human sized hamster running wheel was for though. It was scary. Possibly something to do with the fur industry, a giant dry cleaner or something?? I doubt it had been used in the past 30 years.

It was probably one of those clothes racks that spins when you push a button.

Nope. It's covered in dust and cobwebs. It's bolted to the floor in the corner of the basement. It truly is a 6.5 foot tall wheel that is shaped like a hamster wheel. It's a cage and had a hatch on it. Maybe its for calling jumbo Bingo numbers?

I know someone who is working the Seiden's close out. Seiden's is connected to Alaskan Furs.

Enough with the coffee shops--geez--two starbucks within 5 blocks of the site (and two blocks of each other) as well as a scooters and coffee shops in the marriott and crowne plaza. And (in typical kc fashion) nothing open much after dark or on the weekends other than the hotel establishments. People out and about downtown after dark are solely looking to get loaded--not drink coffee. Put something truly useful there--an ihop or 7-11.

In Marriott, come in the front doors and hang a hard left - its up against the front wall of the hotel at the base of the escalators up to the ballrooms (or, at least it was in October)DaveKCMO wrote: coffee shops in these hotels? for real? where?

Re: Seiden's Furs Appears to Be Closing
That's more of a "cart" at the Mariott and I hardly consider it a coffee shop. A place to stop by to grab a cup of black coffee, sure, but it's a cart. No seating = no shop.
Re: Seiden's Furs Appears to Be Closing
Please, no 7-11 or IHOP. I'm sure you can con some little business owner into keeping a place open later once P&L is more up and running.
And I really don't think I can handle a coffee shop next to Folgers. That's too much coffee fragrance (and I never thought I'd say that).

Re: Seiden's Furs Appears to Be Closing
It's because of the Folger's Plant that any coffee shop would do well there owing to the Pavlovian response to the smell in the neighborhood. People walking around thinking "must have coffee." :-p
