Ahh, funk caved. He does have a breaking point. I can only imagine the feedback he was getting from the entire community on how he was dealing with this project.

i also wonder if there's a serious commercial tenant already lined up... something that would be a big win, even with the superTIF.

I may be right. I may be wrong. But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

Depending on the vote tomorrow it does appear that I was correct.aknowledgeableperson wrote: I am sure that before the next meeting there will be some sort of compromise to get this done, expecially since there is strong support from the surrounding neighborhood plus with what is happening west of 435.

Exactly what did he "compromise"? The city can be involved? WTF does that mean other than some lame way to make it sound like he got a much better deal for the city?aknowledgeableperson wrote: Depending on the vote tomorrow it does appear that I was correct.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he caved, it was in the best interest of the city.

On the news a minute ago Mark said the State is requiring we approve the Super Tif deal.
I suppose schlemiels can take comfort in knowing our State authorities will choose whats best for us.

Perfect location now for the southern terminus and park-n-ride of a mass transit line.

There will be a brand new design, though some of the elements (you know, like seats!) may be shared. It's still 360 Architects, but the site is different, and some of the concepts have changed.mykem wrote: Does anybody know if this is still the prefered design of the new complex??? or will they design something diffrent?

So, is this a "done deal" now? When can I start celebrating?

Looks like Funk actually did something different---not pissing people off by being so damn stubborn
Anyways, back to the subject, I am thrilled about the project. Hopefully everything will go smoothly tomorrow and this project can officially be moving dirt. I'm looking forward to watching soccer games in a more confined, intimate(sp) setting.

I would imagine that they will announce the stadium will NOT be privately built, and CITY owned & Operated. That was what I believe the mayer was having his quarrel over...and thats the part that would have put the project in red over time if it was given SuperTIF. The details of the "compromise" may perhaps be that the stadium will be privately built, and jointly operated, or at least have an operating fund established for the citys usage.
What's graciously given to KC, is strong for the region as a whole. Passion and benevolence will one day exeem towards all whom know true adoration. We shall triumph to better the community as One within

Re: Wizards Stadium at Bannister Mall
Bannister Mall opened in 1980, the building is only 27-years-old. It has 1.2 million-square-foot of space.
For comparison purposes, One Kansas City Place, at 42-stories, has 890,000 gross leasable square feet.
It just seems wasteful to tear this building down and not attempt another type of redevelopment plan before doing so.

Re: Wizards Stadium at Bannister Mall
The building is really a poor design. It's very dark and lacks common space like Independence center. I have advocated opening the thing up to make it an outdoor mall, but other than that I thinks it's pretty much a failed effort.FangKC wrote: Bannister Mall opened in 1980, the building is only 27-years-old. couldn't if have gone through without his vote? or was his opposition the only one that made the news?skim82 wrote: Looks like Funk actually did something different---not pissing people off by being so damn stubborn
