Springfield is the next Orlando-- just without the weather and location.
Are you saying that Disney would be making a mistake locating an attraction is SW MO?

I may be right. I may be wrong. But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

Disney could locate an attraction in North Dakota and be successful.aknowledgeableperson wrote: Springfield is the next Orlando-- just without the weather and location.

Obviously, they can't compete with Orlando in the weather department. Of course, compared to the EuroDisney location, SWMO feels like the Carribbean.aknowledgeableperson wrote: Springfield is the next Orlando-- just without the weather and location.

This may not be a Disney project at all. Maybe someone added 2 and 2 and came up with 5.

Who else has a billion dollars to throw around on an amusement park? I really can't think of who else it could be.aknowledgeableperson wrote: This may not be a Disney project at all. Maybe someone added 2 and 2 and came up with 5.

Re: Disney to Ozarks?
They linked the company that inquired about the land to two Disney addresses. Read the article.
A possible Disney connection was raised when commissioners checked the company owners. On a form called "Registration of Fictitious Name" filed with the Missouri Secretary of State's office in March for ARM Risk, three owners are listed. Corporations routinely file such forms.
The owners are Michael Hill of Wilmington, Del.; Robert Brown, who lists his address as 500 South Buena Vista St., Burbank, Calif.; and Jason Johnson, who lists his address as Corporate Office, Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
On the Internet, commissioners found that the Burbank address is corporate headquarters of the Walt Disney Co. Lake Buena Vista, Fla., is headquarters of Walt Disney World Resort.

Where do you get that amount? It looks like the development would take up 100 acres. $1B on 100 acres, that would be some development.cpt4599 wrote: Who else has a billion dollars to throw around on an amusement park? I really can't think of who else it could be.
Besides, they would do it the American Way, borrow it.

Re: Disney to Ozarks?
Well I got that amount from the article that was posted on page one of this thread. It says A list of specifications Marshall gave the commissioners included first-phase construction costs of $1.1 billion, land purchases of 1,000 acres with the park taking 100 acres, six hotels, 95 shops, 27 rides, 12 stages and 18 restaurants.aknowledgeableperson wrote: Where do you get that amount? Here is the full article. Read it so you don't sound like an idiot. http://www.news-leader.com/apps/pbcs.dl ... 007/NEWS01

Trademark AKP negativity coming out here... I don't want to be mean, cause I'm sure you're a good person, but frankly you do sound like an idiot when you say stuff like this without getting all the info yourself. And if you did have all the info, you might have rephrased your statements to better indicate what you meant to say. As it is, you just sound like Eeyore.cpt4599 wrote: Here is the full article. Sometimes I wonder if you try to convince people that the Sprint Center was just a big rumor, nothing's being built downtown, and GRID's pictures are all Photoshopped with buildings from other cities.

Re: Disney to Ozarks?
It was my mistake. I was taking the $1B for the 100 acre park alone, not the full development.
As of right now it is not a Disney project. It is speculation.
Now, Newton County Commissioners are investigating whether Disney could be linked to a theme park proposal made earlier this month.
And
Officials at Disney headquarters in Burbank said the company would not comment on the matter
Now, when Disney bought the Orlando land he used straw parties to buy the land to help hold down the prices to pay. Until Disney makes an "official' announcement it is speculation that they are involved. Maybe Brown & Johnson are leaving Disney.

Re: Disney to Ozarks?
I can state as a fact, if the words fact and rumor can be used in the same sentence, that Disney rumors have swirled around the Ozarks area for at least 30 years. In the mid 70's when I was just old enough to dream of a trip to Disneyworld the rumor was that Disney was buying land on the north side of 76 between Branson and SDC. In the 80's it was south of Ozark on 65. And those were the ones that seemed to have some merit at the time. There are always Disney rumors popping up in Branson.
As a side note, in the mid 90's I can say that Knott's Berry Farm definitely had serious interest in Branson and was close to buying the land until they received a letter from Pete Herschend, owner of SDC, dissuading them from locating a theme park in Branson. I didn't believe Herschend would actually have the balls to write a letter like that unsolicited until I actually saw a copy of it that was leaked somehow. He basically told them he would make their life hell if they tried to build in Branson. SDC is the big fish in a little pond and Herschend wants to keep it that way. I suspect he would do everything he could to stop Disney from moving into SW MO and he's pretty well connected politically in MO.

Actually, I think Rockaway Beach defeated themselves with those horrid "we're poor" commercials beging the state for the opportunity to host casinos. I'm certainly not against casinos, but I voted against it as I saw it as a means for those poor people to further f-themselves in the keister. They clearly have no sense and frankly their ignorance is an idictment of all single-lined family tree's. Those poor fools think the state bird is Kenny Loggins.moderne wrote: He did defeat gambling in Rockaway Beach.

Re: Disney to Ozarks?
just to lay this to rest...
No Missouri Themepark for Disney!
Remember that rumor of a theme park going up in rural Missouri near Branson? Well, it was a fun rumor to think about it. As I stated it was a wild one and it turns out to have been too wild. The News-Leader has posted something of a retraction pointing out County Officials had their misconceptions cleared up by Disney. It's most likely this was just a prank.

you can't access the entire article from the News-leader (who first broke the story), but here's the intro:
STLToday also had a timeline of the rumor, but can't access it so, you can get a summary of it at this blog:

Rumoured Disney park 'shenanigans'
News-Leader Neosho -- People in rural Newton County will have to forget, at least for now, the prospect of selling their land for big bucks to the Walt Disney Co. After rumors flew last week that Disney was planning to build a $1.1 billion theme...

FWIW, I just read speculation somewhere that this was a rumor that was hatched to raise property values.
