Um, no for the most part the children of all the suburbs are not exposed to much outside of soccer and chuck cheeses.StL_Dan wrote: What makes you think the children of Olathe are not exposed to "culture" wherever it may be found in the great bi-state region of Kansas City??
I take my children everywhere all the time. Even though I live in BS, my five year old can recognize and name things like City Market, Union Station, Base Ball Museum, Nelson, Plaza, Crown Center etc etc. He will brag that he can bike from Waldo to the Plaza. But take him to Target and he doesn't know if he is in Lee's Summit or Shawnee. He also enjoys riding buses and trains, (mostly in other cities cause we have none) and doesn't freak when he sees other races and people speaking other languagues, (we have friend with chidren that react because they are never expoded to that).
We are absolutley in the minority. I always test people and ask what they do over the weekend etc, and I swear, we are some of the only suburban parents that take our kids out of the burbs so often.
Most suburbanites don't expose themelves to "culture", let alone there kids. They do teach there kids that the city is a bad and dangerous place though. They are missing out.
