Re: Kansas City NHL Articles
the only thing worse than not trying for the NBA or NHL, is getting it in here and failing.
Then watching it leave. t-h-a-t is the 'doomsday scenario' IMO.

Meh. There isn't a city in America that hasn't lost a sports franchise. Might as well try.

Dunno that I'd agree on the Browns....they left only b/c there was already another successful MLB team across the town. That's a decent excuse, IMO.KCMax wrote: Yea, that supposedly great sports town St. Louis - Browns, football Cardinals, Hawks

Re: Kansas City NHL Articles
FYI-
Pennsylvania Gov. Rendell is planning on having a meeting with Pens officials Friday.
Rumors are they are finalizing a deal. There were rumors that they would announce a deal yesterday, for what that's worth. I think folks out there are speculating since there has been no news.
I'm sticking with my assumption that they are staying. But until they finalize it, there is still "hope" for KC.

^actually, the Rams started out in St. Louis, as the St. Louis Gunners in the 1930's.

After five seasons, Pittsburgh lost its NHL team.
Of course, that was 1930. Like the baseball team, they were called the Pirates.

Former Blades owner isn't sure NHL can work in KC
K.C. revisited may be a mistake
My only real concern,'' says Calgary's Mr. Baseball of the reported shift of an ailing NHL franchise to K.C., "is the size of the market. They already have two major sports franchises there, and three could turn out to be a crowd. There'll be a honeymoon period, for sure, and they do have a group of businessmen who are solidly behind the sport. But, still . .
What about expansion as an option?
Expansion no solution for NHL
Truth is — and this is the reason we always have to keep the expansion police on alert — there are a few towns around North America that would love to get an NHL franchise.
Kansas City tops the list at the moment. There is a new building just aching for a tenant, courtesy of L.A. Kings billionaire owner Philip Anschutz, and city fathers want the Penguins to speedwaddle out to the heartland.
Where are the Penguins talks right now?
Arena talks may resume soon
Another round of talks between the Penguins and state and local officials over funding for a new arena could be days away.
Gov. Ed Rendell is expected to meet with Penguins owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle late tomorrow or Friday during a visit to Pittsburgh to discuss progress on Plan B, the funding formula he put together for a new arena. Also expected to attend are Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato.
The parties were still attempting to establish a firm time and day for the meeting yesterday.
The meeting would be the first since Jan. 4, when state and local officials met with Mr. Lemieux and Mr. Burkle at the State Office Building, Downtown.....
While talks between the Penguins and state and local officials over Plan B have gone well, it's unlikely that the meeting this week will produce a final agreement.

Re: Kansas City NHL Articles
Hmmm.... Looks like some of the key funding for the Pittsburgh arena may be in limbo until the first of March.

Casinos put on hold by state gaming board
Wednesday, January 17, 2007
By Mark Belko, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board members may not issue formal orders relating to the state's five stand-alone casino licenses until the end of the month, leaving winners in Pittsburgh and elsewhere cooling their heels at least until then.
Release of the formal orders triggers a 30-day period during which the losers of casino battles in Pennsylvania would have the right to appeal the awards to the state Supreme Court.
Re: Kansas City NHL Articles
kk on 810 thinks that the penguins are going to call kc's bluff, and stay in pittsburgh for one more year to try to work out an arena deal there.
Re: Kansas City NHL Articles
kc's bluff....don't we already have the arena under construction..and slated to open next year?

He thinks the penguins think that there is no one intrested in moving to the sprint center this year. so the penguins will have the whole year to work things out there. kk thinks we will end up with an expansion team in two years.im2kull wrote: kc's bluff....don't we already have the arena under construction..and slated to open next year?
