Took this pic this past sunday. Thought I'd share.

Nice, the glass is working its way up. Does anyone know how they decide to organize the panes? Are they taken out in a specific order? Or do the construction workers just decide at random?kcmetro wrote: Took this pic this past sunday. Thought I'd share.
Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction
I'm positive they are tagged and numbered to correspond with surronding panels. With the frosting on the glass, they have to line up to look right.Brodees wrote: Nice, the glass is working its way up. Does anyone know how they decide to organize the panes? Gotcha. Thanks.MC86 wrote: I'm positive they are tagged and numbered to correspond with surronding panels. With the frosting on the glass, they have to line up to look right.
Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction
Anyone notice the slight similarity between the pattern in the glass panes at Sprint Center and the windows at the Bolling Federal Building? At any rate, the arena is shaping up to be spectacular, especially the way in which it relates to everything around it, Grand in particular, thus far.

i drove through 670 tonight on my way home and i could really see the lights shimmering and shining off of the glass on the arena. It looked great! It really made me realize that this thing will be something special when its all covered in glass at night.

I also noticed the similarities between the two buildings on my way home today. The Sprint Center looks like a shorter, wrapped-around version of the Bolling Federal Building. I think those two compliment each other quite lovely, making downtown look more aestetically pleasing.

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction
The Sprint Center will be the nicest arena in the nation. It's location, it's design... Every other arena is a boring box and or isolated from any true urban fabric.
Everything about the sprint center rocks. I just hope we get an NHL team now...

Hey now, don't forget who designs half of those boring boxesGRID wrote: Every other arena is a boring box
I agree, though. The Sprint Center is going to be spectacular when it's finished ... I can't wait!

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction
It is funny how as a building is finnished how it starts to impress even the neysayers that hated the design on the onset. We are probably on the last 1/3rd of the construction and now most of the people who hated the design love it. I just hope that this thread will continue as a update of the events being held in the arena so that people like me (non KC residents) will be able to purchase tickets to events.

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction
annie, i think that since the arena has had several completely separate design renderings released over the past two years since the thing was approved by voters, anyone who complained about the arena was probably basing their judgement on the more ambiguous, plain-vanilla renderings.

i love this arena right now. its everything ive imagined it to be so far. i just hope i can still say that once they start the construction of the "moons".
Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction
Oh, quite the understatement... The rest of the arenas are absolute shit in comparison. Philips Arena in Atlanta looks like Bartle Hall, just a slab sided boring building. KC is getting an absolute gem.GRID wrote: The Sprint Center will be the nicest arena in the nation. It's location, it's design... The only thing left to do now is to figure out just what to do with that awful surface lot across the street, as well as that dilapidated AT&T building adjacent to it.
