we've been getting stuff in the mail about their grand opening.

All kinds of free stuff. And free ferris wheel rides which should give a really awesome view.

Briarcliff Village just landed a HUGE tenant with regional draw.... Nell Hill's from Atchison, KS.  The owner, Mary Carol Garrity is a respected author and nationally-syndicated columnist.  She's kind of like the Martha Stewart of the midwest.  :)  They will start construction on a 25,000 sq. ft. building in January and be open by Fall 2007.

This is great news for Briarcliff.

I can't tell you how many times I heard about this from the females in the office this week.  I didn't realize the place had that loyal of a following.

I had never heard of Nell Hills but I found a website for them: http://www.nellhills.com/

Personally, I can't wait until they open a Slappy The Wang's.  I know Nota will be there demanding names.

Interestingly enough, I've been to Nell Hill's in Atchison several times with friends. I can't get into that stuff, but my friends sure do. I DO think that it will be a big draw for Briarcliff and Nell Hill's will get great business as well. I'm betting it also hurts their Atchison business. Every female I know loves Nell Hills except for me.

NH might as well be operated by the Deffenbaugh's as far as I'm concerned.  The place has NOTHING on Sanford and Son.

this project seems pretty nice.  i am glad they are getting local and unique tenants (nell hills, piropos, latteland, tivol, etc.).

If they had Kirklands, Sizzler, Dunkin Donuts and Zales would it really be much different?

yes.  the polar opposite.  i prefer supporting local entrepreneurs and businesses over multinational corporations headquartered in distant states.

That's quite shocking.

I'd be surprised if very many people even knew about the event.  A lot of people aren't aware that the place exists yet.  They haven't done a very good job of publicizing their existence.  I've yet to see anything about Briarcliff Village in any of the local rags so far other than a brief mention of some of the tenants in the Star.

Briarcliff in general is a secret to most of the metro.

That will change in a few years when they begin to widen I-29 from the loop to the split and build a new Paseo Bridge ;).

We went out of our way on Saturday to buy Pastry Goddess cookies at Briarcliff.  The few stores open were very busy, the city view is great but I hope they don't build in front of the view.  I predict this place will be a big success with it's combination of weekday neighborhood stores and weekend destination stores all with regional roots.
