KC getting up to code
If these ballot questions pass, and we get the super bowl and an allstar game. What would be need to spend to get Kansas City in an appropriate condition for hosting gigantic events like these?

That would officially prove how f'ed up our priorities are, if we ave rail to service a few mega events, but nothing for the core.KCMax wrote: A rail sytem connecting downtown to the TSC and the airport.

My point is that I don't think KC can afford the billions of dollars it would take to render itself fit for events like these.

Suzie Q will get a big fat raise at the new Sonic across from the TSC, a nice fat 1% cut of which will roll into the city coffers. Oh, wait, I forgot they will TIF the new Sonic. Nevermind.

Re: KC getting up to code
i'm having a hard time seeing billions spent on one time sport events as a wise investment in the city considering its current state. or as an investment at all. like i said in another post, i wonder what we will be dealing with in 2015 as it relates to global energy prices. that chunk of change we blew back in 2006 for a lid and some gold plated bandaids may very well look foolish in 2015. (as if it doesnt right now)

That's what the pro side says but.......
From and inc.com article:
However, he notes that as Detroit’s city center tries to stage a turnaround, the money spent to bring the event to town might have been better used on local development programs. “One weekend of visitors does very little to revitalize an area,â€

Exactly - no one is going to build a new hotel or open a new restaurant just so they can get a weekend's worth of customers.

I remember someone saying that Bartle would need to be expanded to handle the NFL Experience. I have no idea if this is true...

Bartle, much like Ohare, seems destined to be on a perennial expansion until it ultimately engulfs what remains of the city.Kard wrote: I remember someone saying that Bartle would need to be expanded to handle the NFL Experience. I have no idea if this is true...

I believe that this angle is the key for the anti-1&2 crowd in simplifying this issue and putting it before the masses.warwickland wrote: we should start a thread listing what could be done with a billion dollars that would spur additional development. an investment.

thank you for calling me out, but, you vote no people who think this will fail, or if it does a dt stadium will happen, are firmly in control of this thread. it is kind of like a republican convention, people like me know it is going on, yet ignore it.kucer wrote: wow, a thread chef never responded to....or any of the pro side for that matter.....yes, i said wow.

What a way to describe yourself. You hit the nail right on the head with that. Couldn't describe you any better. Great insight. I thought you would finally see the truth, and you did. You were blind and now you can see.bahua wrote: No, because that would make us Kansas City-hating trolls.
I may be right. I may be wrong. But there is a lot of gray area in-between.
