This is a NORTH Kansas City, MO thread. And were not talking "Kansas City North' either; which is what is used to refer to the city of KCMO north of the river. In case your not familiar North Kansas City is a seperate city with their own mayor and all. Here's your sign.Sportster wrote:

Osco (now CVS) on Armour to be torn down and replaced with box that will have parking lot on Armour side, thus ruining the streetscape building line.

Tearing down the entire brick building, even the 2-story section that fronts the sidewalks and corner?moderne wrote: Osco (now CVS) on Armour to be torn down and replaced with box that will have parking lot on Armour side, thus ruining the streetscape building line.
I wonder why they would do that. The CVS in Brookside is in the same format as the existing NKC store and it works fine.

Re: North Kansas City
I thought the corner of Armour and Swift had historic designation?
I would hate to see what happened to 75th and Wornall in my stretch of the woods when Walgreen's took over the old Jasper's site. This is a tragedy - that Osco building is in poor shape, but surely they can build a new building with the parking where it is now?

The NKC Osco will NOT be fronted with a surface lot.. They have detailed renderings posted in the current store which pretty much shows a modern version of the existing store.moderne wrote: Osco (now CVS) on Armour to be torn down and replaced with box that will have parking lot on Armour side, thus ruining the streetscape building line.

Re: North Kansas City
good to hear, I was wondering why NKC would allow a parking lot and setback. They seem to be pushing for the right stuff with downtown, northgate, northtown lofts etc.MidWestSider wrote: The NKC Osco will NOT be fronted with a surface lot.. Re: North Kansas City
I figured they'd have to at least gut the building if not tear it down completely and start over. The outside may look good but the inside is in really bad shape. Buckled and broken flooring that sags with each step and a really bad smell throughout.
Any word yet on how the CVS takeover will affect the 921 Main Osco?

Re: North Kansas City
Would NKC do better if it were annexed by KCMO? (just a thought) Or would it do the same?

It would probably do worse. Just a guess.

Re: North Kansas City
as far as i know, nkc isnt strewing economically unsustainable infrastructure and enabling unsustainable exurban construction across thousands of acres of farmland, and is (re)building itself in a somewhat considerate fashion. nkc is perhaps better off left alone.

The manager at Osco told me that he thought the new building will be built on the existing foundation after the basement is filled in.

Re: North Kansas City
Good... aesthetically, this looks like an improvement! I just hope they don't diminish the service inside (eg, killing the 24 hour pharmacy, the liquor store, etc.).

We should really go out of our way to let them know that we appreciate their pedestrian friendly design. This is great, subtle news that we don't often get.
