I'm still holding out hope that some day the zones that are blocked off along the Main streetcar line with plastic barriers will be replaced with concrete curbs & planting beds. Those plastic barriers are ugly (and will look more tired with age). If those spaces truly are no-go-zones then lets make them permanent and pretty!

the plastic barriers are called flex bollards. there's also fancier bollards that can be put in made of concrete. using standing planters is another option

I'm thinking of something that is permanent, not a movable planter or bollard. I literally want to see landscaped medians and sidewalk bumpouts that mimic the current flex bollard layout. Yeah, they would be a little odd shaped, but that wouldn't bother me.

A non movable planter is called a permanent planter.

Go look at the federal courthouse for a permanent bollard. they're not movable since they're designed to stop a vehicle from getting close post-OK City bombing

there's plenty of places actual bump outs makes sense but not everywhere. I can find places across the city where adding bike parking would be as easy as a few bollards.

starting with flex for quick installation and moving to concrete over time isn't a bad idea

cheaper to pour concrete and completely block parking
vs
the cost to drill a hole, buy a sign, place a sign and then hire someone to ticket people who ignore the sign.
vs
flex bollard placement and replacement

because code has a 20 foot from corner rule that's widely ignored. in the same sense there doesn't need to be a center turn lane where there's no curb cuts.

It's cheaper to enforce the law.

You also happen to make money by doing that.

I don't think it should just be a big planter, permanent or not. It should look like an extension of the sidewalk. Remove the un-used street.

Bushes would be easier to maintain than grass. Have to mow every other week at times but you can prune a bush twice a year tops
Hardscapes with sculptures.
Fancy fencing or textured walls.

If the system expands a lot more, sure. Portland has done it to improve travel times.

I remember once questioning why the North Loop stop was needed. It has since become the stop I use the most.
