OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
Hotels will typically let you leave your car, and a lot of people use them as cell phone lots.
Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
I was just in San Antonio over the weekend, where they've been renovating the airport for years (I think maybe complete now). They have two parking structures in the location where ours is, and the structure nearest the main terminal is dedicated to car rentals. Will our new airport leave our current rental car facility where it is, given it is fairly new and only about 5 minutes away by shuttle?

I get irrationally angry at the thought of spending one extra cent on glass jetways

I hope the city gets glass jetways. It will improve the experience for people with an apprehension of flying, the current style is kind of claustrophobic when a lot of people line up inside it.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2019 7:07 pm I get irrationally angry at the thought of spending one extra cent on glass jetways

Yes because it's the jetway causing claustrophobia not you know, the tiny metal tube you are flying in for hours.flyingember wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 9:12 amI hope the city gets glass jetways. I can't think of a required airport element that could be more wasteful in our tight budget. Speaking of tight budget
PDX $2B for expansion alone

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
Secondary European airports usually* have glass jetways. As those airports are effectively the definition of value engineering, I don't imagine they're more expensive than the metal ones we typically see here.

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
You pay a premium for glass. Our friends down in Witchita got glass bridges with their new terminal.
Glass bridges require a lot more cooling during the summer months. I think this is why you see airports in climates/cultures that require heavy AC go with metal(among other things). A quick scroll through google pulls up an aviation forum noted that fire codes prevent their instillation in many US cities as well.

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
The budget is finite as agreed to by airlines and I don't want that finite budget being used for "nicer" jetways when there will be so much value engineering already happening on this project.TheLastGentleman wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 12:54 pmBut we're not paying for it though......right?KCPowercat wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2019 7:07 pm I get irrationally angry at the thought of spending one extra cent on glass jetways

We may not be able to give you your scalloped roof.... BUT we can give you glass jetways!

Maybe, they’re repurposing some Cordish Light glass.
Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
People will probably just shoot up the glass anyway.

This should cut the debt costs. Perhaps enough to add back the scalloped roof or other desires?
