from twitter
Im a bit surprised that no discussion was put into putting a hotel next to the terminal or the parking garage. Would be great to shield the massive garage with a hotel or something on the way in to the airport.
That would be awesome but I think it would cause problems with the control tower view.

Initial selections for the art pieces have been unveiled:

The sketch up screenshots don’t seem like they do some of them justice. (No surprise.)

Looking at the previous work of the arrivals escalator piece’s artist, her stuff has some real vibrancy to it.

I don’t think it’s Nick Cave of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. I think it’s this guy:
https://art21.org/artist/nick-cave/

He’s done similar pieces to what’s proposed here:

Nick Cave seems like a significant get, excited about all of them but particularly him.

I like them all. The fountain kind of has a hidden jesus cross in it though? I was hoping for a little cooler fountain one.

The installations look pretty neat. This is really coming along. Seems like a lot of people are still upset about replacing the old terminals on social media. Maybe they will finally see the light after they are able to use it.

I am aware.

His exhibition Hi-Dyve at Open Spaces was unreal.

To me, it's disappointing that the fountain is "fake" (not an actual water installation). So I guess the City Of Fountains will not have a water feature in its 1.5 Billion airport after all.

I’d like to see a distinctive fountain of some kind at the entrance of the single terminal as well. I know there’s already a fountain/art piece on the entrance road into the airport but something right at the terminal entrance that functions year-round would be nice. Maybe someone/family with major funds could donate it to the city like the Bloch fountain in front of Union Station.

I like that the non-water fountain is kinetic. Water would have been cool but we all know it was a pipe dream filled with maintenance problems. Make a cool Bellagio water cannon one outside.

Nick Cave is a HUGE get -- he is one of the major darlings of the art world today. He also has deep, local ties. I coveted his early soundsuits (should have bought one!)

The NY arts magazine Bomb did a feature on him a while ago:

They shouldn't even call it a fountain at this point. It has zero relationship to a fountain, not even in basic form. It's a generic, cheap, cookie cutter looking piece of "modern" "art" that thousands of people will zoom right past every day without even noticing.

1% for art my ass.

I don't mean to be ugly, but his "fountain" reminds me of Rita Blitt's sculptures. Not a fan. To me, it's Johnson County expressed in sculpture. Does not say Kansas City. Give me Nick Cave, please.

That should be roundly mocked until some money is found to install a fountain. For the City of Fountains not to have a decent fountain in its' airport is an embarrassment.

Maybe we just need a new shtick? We're the "city of fountains", but sometimes it feels like what we really mean is "Have you seen the Nichols fountain!?" No one is going to mistake our oversized automobile landscape as an Eden of green and calming fountains.

Recently had to disappoint a colleague from Argentina who heard we were the Paris of the Plains because of all of our boulevards. We looked at Grand, then we looked at Meyer, then we looked at Linwood and I said "For sure. This one has a Home Depot and Costco, just like Pah-ree!"

Also I've recently become biased against water features after learning how much energy they consume.
