Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
Sure, just a rumor. I don't think it make sense to move your biggest major airline first. Work out the kinks with a smaller carrier if you are going to phase it in.
Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
I actually think it makes sense. Southwest is big enough to stress test things and probably big enough to soft open bars and restaurants.

That's true on amenities. Of course we're used to a closed starbucks and a prepackaged sandwich out of a fridge so could easily soft open a few restaurants with say a Delta or American.

Delta and American concourses won’t be completed till later. Their current locations also matter less to moving future phases forward.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 4:41 pm That's true on amenities. Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
Is there a publicly available layout of where each airline will be?

They confirmed a while back in one of their media appearances (think it was KSHB?) that the existing terminal B tenants would move to the new western B gates. The current terminal C airlines, for the most part, would be in the eastern A gate wing.

Yeah, there are layouts out there. It’s all pretty public. Just was hoping there was one I could post.horizons82 wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 5:20 pmThey confirmed a while back in one of their media appearances (think it was KSHB?) that the existing terminal B tenants would move to the new western B gates. You could probably train all of the workers at a Southwest terminal to be ready for the full opening too and just shift them around as needed.normalthings wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 4:42 pmDelta and American concourses won’t be completed till later. The massive parking garage is really something to behold. A real front door.

It’s going to always be full.MidtownCat wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 4:54 pm The massive parking garage is really something to behold. A real front door.
Where’s the funding for improved bus service to replace it?
The Mission transit center is nearly a straight shot to the airport and would be easily accessed from a notable part of JoCo.

At airport rates, the garage is a profit center.
Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
Portland's new terminal looks similar to KC's.

This is KC. 20 years after it’s needed.
Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
I'm no airport expert, but if KC metro population isn't growing much then there won't seem to be a need to grow the terminal -- especially since many airlines have consolidated or gone out of business. I suppose we could become a hot tourist destination to offset the lack of population growth, but...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
Am no expert either but unless becoming a major hub, which isn't likely unless an airline drives it to happen, expansion probably won't be needed. And fewer gates are needed than in past as algorithms improve for gate use efficiency (more planes per gate per period than in past). KC's best hope for broad service and driving its own service destiny would more likely come from a local startup (like Vanguard) than from a major airline that is focused on consolidation, reducing hubs.
