Probably water or sewer due to the depth and they're mostly full replacements (rather than relocation).

I prefer going E-W first before worrying about going across river, but that’s just me. Hopefully an E-W that will go to KU hospital as well.

The way to get votes is access to jobs.

It's why NKC works so well as a destination. Just based on ridership potential it's not there at all, the line is about bringing people to NKC.

It's why I so like the idea of crossing I-35 to get to NKC Hospital.
It's why I like a line to KU Med, for the jobs.
Both are 24 hour jobs centers

A paired expansion of NKC and Indep Ave could be an easier sell than either alone. NKC is closer than UMKC to much of this cooridor.

I don't know what the population is where this makes a difference, but Jackson County residents get discounts at Truman Med and UMKC clinics that they don't get at NKC. If one is hospitalized for any length of time, or has a surgery, these discounts can add up.

No way to get to the riverfront? Ground level is rail other option is a very expensive Bridge

It would need to cross two railroads. Imagine the system shutting down constantly or building an expensive bridge

They actually said how in the 2014 study, take 18th Ave and go underneath there

It doesn’t say. Just the approvals for funding. Great first leg to take something to Johnson County

Riverfront is already funded and will open at the same time as the Mainstreet extension. Riverfront is a part of phase 2 if you will. East/West will either be phase 3 or 4.

I thought riverfront was projecting 2024 operation? Did it get pushed a year?

I think they want to try and get mainstreet opened in 2024 but have yet to make it official.

Interesting KU Med is getting involved. $75k to get a multi-million dollar streetcar run to their building seems like a good deal. I will listen to what they say, but still think 12th st. is better way to get to Kansas. It's going to be hard to add density to east of Main st. on 12th or 39th st.

I view this as a way to get to JoCo not kck proper. Going down the 12th street viaduct will not be cheap or easy....

Fed infrastructure money helping? Or are they just gonna kick it into overdrive?

There won't be any expansions beyond Riverfront and Main Street until there's a source identified for local operating costs. This is essentially just planning for regional funding. The infrastructure bill -- if it's actually approved -- will only provide capital and they won't give it without a clear financial model that covers operating.
