It wasn't that simple. He's a future favorite of the Democratic party and checked most of the boxes EXCEPT experience in federal government. 4-8 years managing a 140+ billion dollar government department will go a long way for him.

Remember that Truman was a little known senator from the Midwest until he chaired a special committee on government waste in the Defense Department during WWII that caught the attention of Roosevelt and later led to his consideration as Vice President.

Pete was jockeying for a cabinet position because he hopes it will boost his career and, as a soulless climber/empty suit, that is all he really cares about, but the fact that he got one is just mutual back-scratching in recognition of his suicide bombing the Bernie campaign. I think you are giving the Dems way too much credit to think they have any grand plan to groom future candidates (see, for example, the train wreck of the 2020 campaign), you are giving Pete way too much credit to think he would be one of these candidates (Amy Klobuchar's barely-concealed contempt for him was basically her only endearing quality, and how many other Dems who have been around for decades also hate the photogenic young white dude trying to jump the line?), and you are giving DOT way too much credit as a career-launcher (without looking it up, do you remember who was running Obama's DOT when ARRA dumped $50 billion on them for "shovel-ready" projects? How is Pete going to get anything of even that level, working for a president who doesn't want to actually do anything, with a Senate that also doesn't want him to do anything?).

Soulless, former military, likable, well spoken and gay white man in a suit. Like I said, checks nearly all the boxes to be a perfect candidate for the dems.

I don’t think he even needs to actually accomplish anything monumental, it’s just about the resume and staying on TV.

They’ve tried running a female candidate twice and failed. They had to fall back to a ancient white man and toss in a black female to get it done this time. So I won’t be surprised to see Pete at the top of the list in 2028.

I wouldn't be surprised, I'd just be disappointed they couldn't find someone better. But then it seems I always am.

Looks like a fair amount of sour grapes here. At least give them some time to dig us out of the current two-headed (COVID & economy) mess. I’ll consider their administration a success if they can keep a large number of their members from going to jail (unlike the current shit show). No pardons intended.....

Sour grapes at what? I'm ecstatic Trump is getting evicted from the white house. Of course, I'd be almost as ecstatic if he were being replaced by a half-finished AI modeled on the personality of Barney the Dinosaur. At least the tweets would be wholesome and about being nice to each other instead of literally inciting racist political violence.

Well according to your standards, they’ll be successful considering Biden is appointing lifelong political types where Trump tried to do the opposite which proved costly.

I have no sour grapes just pointing out the future possibilities with Pete.

I also have zero confidence in the country being better off after 4 or 8 years under Biden.

Cabinet selections aside, is pretty wild that a Georgia special election will entirely shape Biden's presidency.

Josh Hawley is unfortunately not up for re-election yet. He has recently been really embarrassing MO with all of the election fraud bullshit.

2022 will be a bloodbath for Dems, they are not going to take control of the Senate (and they will lose control of the House).

Makes sense. If DEMs control both in 2020 they'll probably push too many far left agenda items that would push many moderates/indies away from them for 2022 election. They'll get as much done as they can in 2 years anticipating 2022 losses, using poison pills where possible. Hopefully we'll at least see relatively more moderate leaning GOP candidates by then and Trumpism becomes a thing of the past. Not counting on it though.

I wouldn’t count on any “far left” policy coming out of the dems anytime soon. There’s a reason they killed the Bernie campaign

Yeah I've pointed out often that US DEM version of 'socialism' is nothing like Europe or Asia and the fact Bernie was rejected twice in DEM primaries supports that. But there is a good chance DEMs could lose both House/Senate in 2022 and sort of actualize an incidental self-fulling prophecy by pushing leftier things through while they can. It's really about what the moderates/indies think of what's pushed through, not what established DEMs think is not very left.

Depends on GA election of course. I'd like to see Biden get full run for a couple years, partly to clean up Trump's mess, which a GOP Senate may not allow depending on what they can block.

I really hope that Americans aren’t so stupid that they would support full blown traitors to democracy, over making one of the most unequal societies on earth a little more equitable for people

I suspect many if not most moderates support some form of healthcare that they can get as long as those who they feel don't deserve it don't also get it.
