Election 2008

Post by DaveKCMO »

missouri: last day to register is wed., jan. 9. the primary election will be tuesday, feb. 5, at your normal polling location. there are three established parties: democrat, republican, and libertarian. write-in votes are not permitted. absentee ballots are available. filed candidate list.

kansas: you can register up to and at the caucuses (the legislature was too cheap to pay for a proper primary and this is the first caucus for the state in at least two decades). democratic caucuses will be held on tuesday, feb. 5, and republican caucuses will be held saturday, feb. 9, at select locations (not your regular polling place) throughout the state. democrat and republican info is online. only the two main parties will caucus.

we can use this thread to discuss results, advance polling, etc. this above info was all culled from online sources, so let me know if anything needs correction.

all i know is obama won iowa last night, and that huckabee was the favorite going in as well.  surprising that clinton came in 3rd, she'll have to make up the ground.

i think south carolina will be the next true test for clinton. i think CNN said last night that blacks make up about 50% of voting democrats in that state (iowa is 95% white, by "contrast").  :shock:

At least for the Republican Caucas, you have to be a registered Republican by January 25th.  You can't register on the day of the caucas.  According to the website and the JOCO election offices.

Kansas will hold presidential caucuses, not primary
Election workers in Johnson County are fielding dozens of calls from voters who mistakenly think Kansas will hold a presidential primary this year.

Missouri will on Feb. 5. But Kansas won’t.

The most interesting stat on there to me:

Do you think the country is heading in the right direction?

Republicans: 64% yes, 28% no

Democrats: 2% yes, 96% no

If that's not a seriously divided, partisan country, I don't know what is. Good thing George Bush was such a uniter.

it's pretty impressive how the female vote is boosting Clinton's numbers.  I didn't realize it was that defined:

                          ALL  MEN  WOMEN
Hillary Clinton        44%   33%   55%
Barack Obama   31%   38%     24%

Election 2008

Post by AllThingsKC »

With "Super Tuesday" coming up next week, any predictions on which Democrats and Republicans will win the states involved in Super Tuesday?

Image

RED = Just Republicans Only
BLUE = Just Democrats Only
PURPLE = Both
BLACK = Primary Already Held
PINK = Republican Primary Only, prior to Super Tuesday.

Which Democrat will win Kansas on Super Tuesday?  Which Republican and Democrat will win Missouri on Super Tuesday?

Any thoughts?

so what happens with the delegates that have been awarded to Edwards up till now?  Do the delegates themselves decide who to cast their votes for, or do those delegate counts simply disappear?  Or what?

If I were a Democrat...I would be hoping like hell that Hilary does not beat Obama.

If I were a Republican, I would be hoping like hell that Hillary beats Obama...

I've always said that the people who hate Hillary hate her more than the people who like her, like her.

That said, Obama picks up Kansas and they split delegates in Missouri (based on the state's proximity to Illinois).

The key thing for the democrats is that (I think) nearly all of their primaries/caucuses results are proportionally awarded as opposed to the winner-take-all for most of the GOP races.

McCain is clearly the best candidate for the GOP, though I have some serious questions regarding his age (he'll be two years older at the start of his presidency than Reagan, and would be 81 at the end if he served two terms)...

But clearly, any Republican would fight it out with Hillary and would likely win, while the Republicans would, IMO, have quite a battle if they had to go up against Obama.
Indecision is the root of evil.
