McDonalds.
But seriously now, barbecue is a MUST for a district that will see lots of tourist traffic. I'd also like to see cheap Mexican and Chinese joints too, but I don't think I'll get my wish there.

uh
at the very least a Boulevard Tap Room serving simple americana. Â
thats my dream.
i'd rather see this than another Rock Bottom Brewery which is in (it seems) every downtown district, Denver, etc.
or maybe a 75th street brewery or free state tap room. something local.

I'd love to see Barley's set a tiptoe into the city, but as I see that as unlikely, I'd happily support a downtown Flying Saucer location.
Mesa Wraps(or Chipotle if MW is chicken)
A small independent brewery and homebrew shop with Brew-On-Premise facilities would be an attraction, and a lifesaver for yours truly.
Original restaurants of any kind. Second and third locations of existing restaurants get depressing to me.
3AM bars.

i had also heard originally that boulevard was considering a brewery restaurant downtown. was that their idea, or someone elses on their behalf??
also, i believe that 810 is going to do an 810zone too.

Re: What restaurants do you want in the P&L District?
i think a brew pub for Boulevard would be an excellent option! maybe the concept could celebrate local brewing history as well? there definitely needs to be barbecue, preferably Gates and Bryant's right next door to each other (so you could grab the right sauce with the right meat and make your own meal)... or maybe a new concept that celebrates the American Royal? houston's needs to be there, since they're based here (maybe a new concept to contrast with the plaza?). i could also see an art deco bistro or cafe that pays homage to KC's architectural heritage... maybe call it Pendergast's? i echo the comment about Jazz... great local place. whatever style they choose, i hope the restauranteurs think to mine KC's rich history for tie-ins. i would even accept a Cowtown theme if it were done right.

As a KU alumnus, I'd give a nut for Freestate Brewery or even a Quentin's.

KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Long John Silver's
I may be right. I may be wrong. But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

Boulevard Tap Room
Roasterie Coffee
some local BBQ - probably Gates since he seems to have the strongest franchise operation
D'Bronx
locally-owned, eclectic places - chinese, japanese, ethiopian, cuban, whatever. buuuut that's not going to happen.

Lets not kill the rest of downtown for the sake of P+L.KCMax wrote: Oklahoma Joe's, Bo Lings, Margarita's, Stroud's, Town Topic, Garozzo's, Jazz Louisiana Kitchen, Thai Place....mmmmmm....
Arun Thai Place is currently a few blocks north of the district on Walnut. Town Topic is walking distance south. Margarita's isn't far down the Boulevard. Garozzo's is a long walk to Columbus Park.
Hopefully spin-off development will create more appealing walking corridors to connect these things.

I was also thinking of the Rainforest Cafe. They have a Oak Park Mall location and it is always a 2 hour wait. I have eaten there once and it was awesome. They resturant is complete with themed party rooms, main dining area with rainforest decorations, and a huge gift shop.

Re: What restaurants do you want in the P&L District?
I'm not so worried about the big national chains in P&L. After all, the goal is to attract as many people downtown as possible, and if that means Hard Rock and such, its ok with me. The crossroads is just next door, and 39th is not so far away, and once people come down here, like it, and return, maybe that trip they'll explore a bit and see what else is out there.
Hell, let's get em downtown first, then turn them on the local scene.

Re: What restaurants do you want in the P&L District?
With Kansas City having such a rich history of blues and jazz, I think it'd be a shame if a House of Blues wasn't thrown in the mix...
