Sounds interesting - a Baywatch meets Bavaria type concept?

If you want a lame-o 90s themed restaurant (aren't we past that?), go for House of Blues. At least they book touring shows.

Mmm, the Night Slider.

It hadn't occurred to me until you said something, but I'm pretty sure servers in Baywatch bikinis wouldn't hurt.

I think that was with the Stanley Durwood P&L plan a couple decades ago, not the Cordish P&L. Not sure.

we attended a concert at the midland with my mom a couple months ago, on a weeknight. other than the concert, i dont think there was any particularly significant event happening downtown, and i am not sure if there was a convention in town. we had a pre-show drink at the Bristol and it was full, as was every other resto/bar we walked past. i thought that was a really good sign, that places were quite busy on a chilly Oct or November evening without an obvious reason (Big XII, etc). i dont think i had been in the P+L in at least 2 years and really had no clue how well it was doing, so it was good to see the district buzzing apart from the late-night bar crowds.

the city just posted this 10-year-old video about the sprint center. my, those renderings! makes you wonder about the KCI renderings we're seeing 7-10 years out from the opening...

Wow, those graphics...

I'd suspect we'll get the vast majority of what's in the KCI renderings. A lot more tried and true design aspects than that wacky spintop design of Sprint. The one major feature that I'd suspect gets retooled is the feature fountain pre-security. Right now it's magically replenished with no plumbing going to it.

Remember as well with the Sprint Center there was some chest thumping by Populous et al, hence the deceptive promotion. Frank Gehry was supposed to design the arena, and the local architecture firms let it be known to KC leaders they weren't pleased.

Can we put back up the original P&L individual block pages for one day just for old time sake?

It looks like they were hosted on kcskyscrapers.com, which no longer exists. And it appears that the Wayback Machine did not manage to salvage archives of any of the photo albums.

'SOLO' area area in 2004 I think, before P&L.

Parking lot desert.

I wish they would have kept that art deco facade (Soakie's building)

What's that lost building behind the Soakie's building?

That's the Jack Frye Training Center.
It served as TWA's pilot training facility in Kansas City.
Along with classrooms, offices, printing and filming facilities, it also included multiple realistic flight simulators.

Nice, will have to get down and check out the Country Road signage. What's going on with the big screen? Upgrades?

Yes, the districts production manager told me new big screen is going up. He said it’s over twice the size and 150% better quality. He said they purchased a new top of the line sound system last year and this was needed to bring the video up to par.
Good stuff. We will look forward to checking it out!
