Power & Light District cowboy sign
I freaking hate the cowboy sign that now dominates the KC Live area. This isn't Texas

Not a big fan myself. While waiting in line outside for Howl at the Moon a few weeks ago, I heard LOTS of people laughing at it.

Seriously, that thing belongs out at the Legends, it really screws up the entire theme of the power and light district.PumpkinStalker wrote: Not a big fan myself. While waiting in line outside for Howl at the Moon a few weeks ago, I heard LOTS of people laughing at it.

if that's the only one of those, I will be disappointed. How didn't 360 axe that idea when Cordish brought it up?
Now if they add a couple more, I'd be fine with it

Probably due to the city's history as the first Western City on the frontier, and our history of stockyards and the American Royal. We have a Western heritage, but just aren't as obnoxious about it as Texans are.
There is no fifth destination.

Exactly fang. The fact we aren't obnoxious about it doesn't mean that we have to hate it either.FangKC wrote: Probably due to the city's history as the first Western City on the frontier, and our history of stockyards and the American Royal. it just doesn't seem to fit the "brand" cordish is going for....refernce their new website.
its not horrible, but it would be a lot better with other similar type cutouts.

I’m not embarrassed about the western heritage of KC. I have no problem as long as it's done in a "classy" way and at least fits in an area that has some characteristics of that heritage like the West Bottoms.
I don't think I have ever seen anybody walking around downtown KCMO with a cowboy hat and I considering the district is very urban and contemporary in feel, it just doesn't fit and looks rather tacky. It' really makes the entire district seem a bit more cheesy and that kind of sucks, since I think the district has been done quite well other than that god awful sign which would be perfect out at the Legends.

In pictures of KC's past, I don't see cowboys. KC processed meat in the past, it didn't wrangle cows. While there may have been some cowboys, that is true of most early cities of that period so is not unique to KC.FangKC wrote: Probably due to the city's history as the first Western City on the frontier, and our history of stockyards and the American Royal. That sign has got to go. It doesn't represent KC and it's stereotyping.

Maybe it should be replaced with a guy in a striped shirt.
THE KID KEPT ONLY TWO COLORS IN HIS CRAYON BOX.....ONE RED……THE OTHER BLUE!

With one of those ugly ass KU ball caps everybody in JoCo wears?KC_JAYHAWK wrote: Maybe it should be replaced with a guy in a striped shirt.
The sign should just say “Power and Light District” or “Kansas City”
It doesn’t need to be cheesy and tacky.

I like it better than the cowboy hat. At least it somewhat fits KC.KC_JAYHAWK wrote: I like the KU ballcap idea.....kinda ties in with the CBE.

I remember bringing up how tacky that looked in the renderings, and being reassured that it was "only a rendering".
Is it associated with a tenant or is it supposed to be a piece of district "art".

KC Region is all part of the same animal regardless of state and county lines.
Think on the Regional scale.

Meh. First professional baseball team in Kansas City history was the 1889 Kansas City Cowboys. We definitely have somewhat of a Western background.
Maybe instead of a cowboy, it should be a guy slaughtering a cow.

I'm not a fan of the sign either.
But, when all of the other signage and other bells and whistles are installed on the interior of the Live Block, perhaps it will be less noticeable. I mean, in relation to the rest of the District, it's relatively minor in scale.
