I think there is some semantic confusion at play.  I believe that Downtowner probably meant the blade sign/support structure when he referred to marquee,  whereas moderne is making the distinction that the true marquee will be the signage over the door.

OK, now I get it.  He did not know what a marquee was and was referring to the signage.  Sorry.

The digital marquee has been installed above the front entrance.  It looks good.  Nice scale.

This place is really coming together fast.

Do you all remember when the Star reported that they were taking a graft of the tree that was on the roof of the theater and planting it somewhere in the P&L District?

Does anyone know where the tree is going to be planted?  I'm assuming it will take some time to grow it to the point that it's big enough to transplant.

I hope not.  It appeared to be a cottonwood--a trash tree and the bane of air conditioners everywhere.

I don't remember that.  I do remember the possible reuse of the jones store sign.

If they did replant a tree my guess is it would be on the roof park above the grocery store.

yeah, it was in a kevin collison arcticle. and in an email he sent out. said tree was too entangled and snared in the roof to save, had to be destroyed, but that they made seedlings off it to replant in the district. it is on page nine of this thread, you can go back and read it. the star link is dead, but some of the info is still on page 9

Thanks for the picture.  Hard to tell, but wow that looks really underwhelming in size...esp after seeing how huge the other sign is!

Maybe people won't complain about it as much then.

I am guessing that there is still some framing of some sort to be built around that LED ribbon.  You can see where the support I-beam is still very visible after the ribbon starts - hard to imagine that is the finished look.  I think the renderings have depicted a more traditional, big bulb marquee surrounding the center - probably just not attached yet.

Yeah, I was hoping for the more traditional look.  Ok, I guess they just aren't done.  I thought it looked weird w/ the minimal LED ribbon.

Me, too.

I'd guess they actually aren't finished yet with the installation. There's certainly more to it than what we see.

I hope to see a film here before we leave town for good in June.

Yeah. Doesn't it make you feel like the ghost of old Kansas City is coming back?

AMC has logo signs on the back/sides of the theater which can be seen from as far south as Penn Valley area.
