All Arrowhead needs is improvements to generate more revenue for the team. (The suites, better food options, yada, yada, yada)  There is no need to build anything else around Arrowhead.  It is one of the best tailgating expierences in the WORLD.  People go to Chiefs games to tailgate, before AND after the game, some 10 dates out of the year.  There is no need for bars outside, no one would go anyways.  People don't say, "let's make a whole Sunday out of going to the bar, going to the game, and then going to the bar"

HOWEVER... baseball is much different....   The complete opposite actually...  people leave work in the afternoon to walk to downtown baseball venues...  buying tickets that day...  people make a night out of dinner, a game, and then drinking...  Baseball needs to be downtown.. not for downtown (although it would be great) .. not for the Royals (although it would be great).. BUT for the people of Kansas City and the fans of baseball......  

I dont see why everyone shoots this idea down....thats the reason the chiefs would even consider moving...its because people cant get things done around here....
People must not realize how much more money this would SAVE us down the road, and short term.  Baseball is a family event, and lots of games on on weekdays when "familys" have to go home early and pops works the next day, so goodbye to all the after game fun if there was a stadium downtown.....Football though...you get 80,000 drunk guys together, and that could mean alot of cash in a tailgate party under this new "Glass enclosed roof" idea.  Plus that WOULD allow us to get world series, all star games, and the super bowl in town.  We just need a roof, not a fully enclosed structure.

Downtown KC Stadium = $300million..congested parking...baseballs hitting cars/buildings, oh and of course, the washing square location...which is the best bet....would only hold maybe a 27,000 seat stadium...so you can kiss the world series and all star games goodbye, along with revenue once we do get a winning team...and new owner.
This plan = $100 million+save the chiefs+ save the royals+ something UNIQUE to the city+maybe an ESPN Zone, who knows?

Plus that WOULD allow us to get world series.

Don't you have to be in the world series to get a world series?

The weekday family crowd will benefit from the downtown park as well.  The current Eastside location is really only conducive to families from the Eastside going to weekday ballgames.  Ever try and commute home to the West in rush hour, pack up the wife and kids, drive another 45minutes to an hour in traffic on 435, park 8 miles away because you are the last ones to get there, trudge in, etc.  By the time you get settled in your seat, its the 3rd or 4th inning.  I know dozens of folks who live to the West who don't go on weekdays because of this very issue.  Putting it downtown would make it possible for families from all over the city to make it down in time for the game.  

A bankrupt half empty shopping mall underneath a retractable dome that sees foot traffic less than half of the year isn't going to attract an ESPN zone or even a lame run of the mill sports bar let alone do anything to help the Royal's attendance problems.

Phrase 1, point 1:    Applies only for families in Raytown, Independence, and Blue Springs (and outlying east areas).   For everyone else the downtown location is a shorter distance to get to.

Phrase 1, point 2: The after-game fun of the Taco Bell drive-thru?   What in the world are you talking about?

Phrase 2: Sounds like Hunt's gonna make us spend that much anyway just on him, and you don't think this development would carry a huge price tag and be subsidized with our taxes?

Phrase 3:  Hahahahahahahahahahaha.   Covered 99,000 times already on this forum.

Phrase 4:  That's just dumb.

The rest:  The favored location now is 16th & Wyandotte which could hold a massive stadium.

We can't find an extra $25 Million to make the Arena downtown like we originally planned it... but we can spend much much more on this idea to have a giant cake dome and shops that I'd only PERHAPS visit the six times I end up at Truman during the year... hmmmmm.

As with any design ideas, it looks cool.  But please be rational about this... this won't "save" the Royals or Chiefs.  Nothing is a sure thing.  Building a downtown stadium doesn't "save" the Royals, either.  It just makes more sense to take advantage of the growth that's already occuring downtown.  I'm tired of watching KC continually outgrow itself from the core.

This also doesn't cover the whole issue of the crummy conditions of the stadiums.  I guess who cares if the stadiums fall apart when you could be having a beer in ESPNZone, watching it on tv... WHEN IT'S NEXT DOOR!

If Jackson County could increase revenue around this concrete jungle..... why then, didn't they start collecting these rewards 20 years ago?  I don't get it and I don't see a cash cow coming from those parking lots.
