Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's great news..I'm sure the fireworks display will be great. Let's just hope the Royals can scratch out another victory, it would be sad to lose in front of a sellout crowd.GRID wrote: Fox 4 says the friday game will be a sellout.

The Royals aren't Turd Birds right now, because they are winning. The only Turd Birds in Missouri right now... are the Cardinals (who are actually "birds").KCMax wrote: GO TURD BIRDS!!!!

Done.
Anything else you need?
Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As long as we're doing favors for the Cubs, I wonder if they might be able to get me a few home runs and stolen bases out of Fukudome and Theriot. My fantasy team would really appreciate it.

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
34,588 was the turnout of tonight's game. Clearly the best fireworks display I had ever seen. All replete with a prideful presentation of a mini-documentary of the history of the Town of Kansas and how it became the city it is today, on the huge Daktronics board in high-def. Wonderful display of Kansas City architecture and monuments, and random shots of many Kansas Citians, showcasing our extremely diverse culture. Featured famous Kansas Citians such as Pat Methany, Charlie Parker, Walt Disney and of course, David Cook. The fireworks were shown intermittenly between portions of the documentary, against a Dave Cook soundtrack and amongst others such as "Purple Rain" (Prince) and "Living in America" (James Brown). The grand finale being the most high-energy fireworks display in KC history (outside of the 85' Spirit-Fest). There were pyrotechnics igniting artillery shell kits on the baseball field and fire were shooting out of the fountains.
I-70 was bumper to bumper with spectators parked cars on the shoulder, many of them grabbed a lawn chair and camped out in front of the stadium to enjoy the show. The show lasted for 30 minutes.
Definately a memorable fireworks display overshadowing a forgettable performance by the Royals.

Forgot to mention KC was almost named Rabbitville and Possum Trot, before the name "Town of Kansas" came to fruition, which was named after the Kansa Indian Tribe.
Just another fun fact learned from tonight's presentation.

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did some driving around the sports complex about hour or so prior to the start of the fireworks show.
The roads in red are where cars with parked ON BOTH SIDES of the street to see the fireworks!
On I-70 and I-435, people were parked on the shoulder (and in some cases, THE RIGHT LANE). Stadium Drive over I-70 was nothing but pedestrians standing on the bridge!!!
I saw cars parked in every parking lot from:
• As far South as 63rd Street & Blue Ridge.
• As far North as Truman Road, near I-435.
• As far East as I-70 & Lee's Summit Road.
• As far West as Van Brunt & I-70.

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was the greatest fireworks show I have ever seen. I loved the mini documetary. The flames coming out of the fountains was completely unexpected and totally awesome. I'll post some pictures when I get them loaded on my computer.

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Definitely awesome display.
It was also a treat to see the way the pitching staff really embraced the the spirit of the evening by getting the show started early. The offensive fireworks compliments of the gasball crew, otherwise known as our middle relief, was truly stupendous.
You always know there will be an amazing display (for the other team) when the Japanese Gasballer takes to the mound.
Pyrotechnics all around.

We got to the BP across from the stadium in the 6th inning. We were one of those that parked on the shoulder but thankfully we arrived early enough that we got a good spot. Here are some pictures I took.

That's a great shot toss, I agree with your comments.
First off, YOU WENT TO A ROYALS GAME??? haha.
Second, they overdid the video. I think they need to make it less like a documentary and just do some quick skyline shots, show the top attractions museums etc. But you are right, it was bit too much "spoon feeding" that KC is an ok town.
The only problem I see is that this town needs to be spoon fed on what it offers. This town's inferiority complex is bad, real bad, so if we can use events like this to show off KC a bit to the locals so be it.
But I would bet most of the active and Kansas Citians that are not ashamed to call themselves Kansas Citians were at that ballpark last night. I mean, I make it to every single event like this if at all possible, I'm always there, be it a major sporting event, a major festival etc. I think there is a core of about 50k in KC that also do this and most were all the ball park. That's my guess anyway.
I also agree it wasn't the "best" show I have ever seen, but the best show I have seen in KC by far. I expected more, but was not disappointed at all.
Next year, they need to shorten the slow paced pep talk about KC and do more cool graphics etc like what they do before a Royals or Brigade game and keep the dead time between the fireworks to a minimum.
We will be there next year. It was a lot of fun.
