The free streetcar ties everything together anyway so it will be one contiguous street party (or large pockets anyway) from US to RM. Direct the 'tourists and families' to US and let the adventurous find the more interesting side street parties. Large convention parties work this way too - the more obscure ones are away from the 'homogenized/touristy' center. Corporate sponsors will also likely setup their own parties all over downtown.

The City/Convention Bureau should encourage corporate sponsors to setup several street parties along streetcar line, like a Nike party on Delaware, Gatorade party in City Market Sq, Under Armour on 18th, a children's brand (Disney tie to ESPN?) in Crown Center square, etc. And maybe shuttles to West Bottoms, which could host more activities. Would help keep everyone dispersed.
Won't the line to the plaza be completed by then? I like your street party idea hopefully the city can clean up 39th a little bit more by then.

Unlikely streetcar operating by then. But it could be under construction by then, which could create a traffic nightmare in Midtown for large events like this. Free shuttle runs down Broadway to Westport/Plaza might be needed.

Maybe the gondolas will be up and running by then

At least the organizers will have Vegas, Cleveland and the 2022 city to use to tweak the plans on what did and didn't work previously.

I’d love to see team video projected into the outside of Union Station like was done recently for the centennial. https://vimeo.com/105484455 You could even announce the picks that way for the first round.

Great news for KC but I have to ask, why the hell is the NFL draft such a big deal now? It's like the last thing I'd ever travel to experience.

Anything NFL related is king. For example the Game Of Thrones season finale pulled in 13 million viewers that would be the 71st most watched NFL game last season. The Draft is exciting because unlike most sports a lot of the guys getting drafted make an instant impact. So add the popularity factor, people traveling from all over the country you have an exciting experience.

I'm thinking about going to the one in Vegas next year.

I wonder if the NFL will delay their drafts like MLB is considering or will just have a teleconference draft. If cities are delayed a year, we might have the streetcar expansion in place when they come here. (Looking for some crumb of good news in a crazy world)

Has there been talk that the cities will be delayed by a year? I would be surprised if they did that but it would give new KCI and Streetcar expansion more time to get completed.

The rumor is that 2022 was already open so Vegas gets it then.

Anyone worried that our 2023 draft hosting is still going to be hampered by COVID protocols around that time?

My biggest concern is that as Missouri becomes more dominated by rural areas, they keep fucking over STL and KC. Part of that could be not allowing conventions to make their own rules on vaccinations and health measures.

It's certainly a risk moving forward.

Just leave the state already. I love my city, hate my state. They're holding us back.

Good thing there’s a solution for that- live across the border in Kansas, and still have everything of KCMO!

I wish we could just add KC into Kansas already tbh

isn't rural loosing population and cities gaining with the most recent census. problem is all of the suburbs voting for state candidates with the same ideologies as the rural reps.

I mean yes but Missouri is a republican state with a republican gerrymander. We can’t even elect pro city statewide anymore. The old hope was that they’d agree to leave the cities alone and we’d leave the counties alone. Have a few democrats statewide to relax things.

That’s changed.

Yes, but that only works *if* the cities in the given state are growing rapidly.

So, as the rurals depopulate they’re becoming more Republican voting because they’re seeing things change, etc. That’s usually offset (or more) by the growing cities in the given state.

Missouri’s issue is that STL is declining in growth and KC isn’t big enough to carry the water. So therefore a declining rural base that’s becoming Republican can actually outpace the cities here. The same thing is happening in the rust belt with Milwaukee, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Philly, Cleveland, Cincy all not growing at all so the rurals can drag their state to the right.

In short, you can blame St Louis lack of growth for the reason the rurals are being able to dominate now.
