What's shocking is, the size of Mizzou's lead. WOW.
KU not even in the top-35. And some say KU has problems with "institutional control"????

Don't you know...it's because we cheated our way off that list. I'm sure one of our wealthy alumni paid the moderator of that website a hefty sum not to include us on the list. Every K-State and Mizzou fan knows this is a fact. It's too bad the rest of the nation hasn't caught onto our antics!Maitre D wrote: What's shocking is, the size of Mizzou's lead. WOW.

No... it appers anything that goes on at kU is quickly swept under the rug (see Talib's comments at combine)kcmetro wrote: Don't you know...it's because we cheated our way off that list. Re: Big 12 Football
The difference is that Talib was not arrested or caught by the police. Not that it makes it right by any means...but getting caught is worse.

Besides, "smokin" is only a 2 point offense under the scoring. Talib would have to replace Pablo Escobar as Supremo Cartel Capitan in order to rack up enough points to compete with MU.

Actually, I heard that Lew cut a back-room deal to leave us off that list.kcmetro wrote: Don't you know...it's because we cheated our way off that list. Re: Big 12 Football
Liberty isn't and hasn't ever been #1 in the varsity ranking. They engineer their debate schedule so that they appear to be 1st in the non-varsity category. KU's first #1 finish happened in one of the years (05-06) that Liberty claims as a title year. KU finished above Dartmouth, Harvard, and Emory that year. UMKC made the top 16 of the National Debate Tournament for the first time ever in 2007 and had a great run as the eventual runner up to champion Emory (what a terrible school). They finished 32nd in the varsity rankings.MoMan wrote: Liberty University (founded by evolution-denying Jerry Falwell) also has won the debate title, and if I'm not mistaken UMKC has also claimed this "honor". So while it's a nice feather in a university's cap, I'm not sure it confers any more intellectual gravitas to the school that wins it than does, say, a football or basketball title.
After all, it's pretty clear that Liberty University, UMKC, the University of Kansas, and other similar schools aren't exactly in the forefront of academic achievement nationally.
This year's top ten:
1. Kansas (Univ. of) 515
2. Emory 509
3. Harvard 481
4. Binghamton 464
5. Wake Forest 456
6. Dartmouth 442
7. Northwestern 428
8. Michigan State Univ. 417
9. California 395
10. Missouri State 393
From the wiki...
"In varsity rankings, Liberty was twentieth in 2005, seventeenth in 2006, and twenty-fourth in 2007.
As reported by ABC News[28] and the Associated Press[29] the Liberty Debate team accumulates points by sending lots of teams to small tournaments, debating almost exclusively in their district, while not engaging known debate champions like Michigan State, Berkeley, Dartmouth, Emory and Harvard."

Re: Big 12 Football
Shouldn't this be spun off into Big XII Debate? Would that still go in the Sports forum?
Re: Big 12 Football
If it does stay in the sports forum, I'm going to take my hideous white "academic" letter from high school and trade it in for the cool blue "athletic" letter that led to way more ass than academic letters could. It's just like that song Glory Days....Shouldn't this be spun off into Big XII Debate? Would that still go in the Sports forum?

Aqib Talib taken at #20 overall in the first round by Tampa Bay. ESPN announcers appeared to be surprised since Tampa Bay was expected to take a receiver.

I'm actually glad you say this. Considering exactly NONE of your other KU predictions have come true, we'll all assume this won't, either.TheBigChuckbowski wrote: And because Talib is clearly going to be a major bust.
