I love all the old signage on this dearly departed building. Isn't this the building that had a wall collapse?

No trees were destroyed in the sending of this contaminant- free message.
However, a significant number of electrons have been inconvenienced.

There is a certain beauty in ruined buildings.
I find it amusing that there was once enough
of a market for the Fez, that the building had
a billboard advertising them.
There is no fifth destination.

The casino's a little south of that building. Here's the back of the casino (the old Scottish Rites temple).

I guess nobody wanted to buy this unhappy little hulk for $15,000, so it's been converted into a vacant lot. This was the home of Charley's Bicycle and Hobby Shop, just west of 18th & Parallel. Quite familiar to anyone who went to Northwest Junior High in the 50's. I remember going there a few times and buying cheap balsa gliders. My 1954 Polk's directory says the businesses were, from left to right: Rowden's Barber Shop, Gaume's Bakery, Quality Cleaners and Shoe Repair, and Charley's. It's just another little piece of my childhood neighborhood melted away.

I can't tell too well from the picture but it looks like there are small drainage holes right above the rocks that stick out.  If thats the case, I'd guess that its just a primitave drainage system that gets the drainage away from the wall

Union Hill during the Spring bloom is one of the loveliest neighborhoods in Kansas City.

R. A. Long Building.  In 1906, when it was built, Long’s office tower was Kansas City's first tall building constructed with skeleton steel framing.
