Powell Gardens 2019 Part 2

Post by Roanoker »

My son admires one of the garden pools.
Image

The hummingbird and flower are made of 61,107 Lego bricks. (I took a picture of the sign.)
Image

A playground for little kids. We might see them at play in later pictures.
Image

This picture took a lot of time because I used the pen tool to cut away the too-busy background.
Image

Closer view of same.
Image

This cut-away effort was faster because I used the quick-selection tool. But it isn’t as precise.
Image

This tortoise and finch (on top) is made up of 23, 317 Lego bricks. The Lego Bricks presentation lasted from May 1 through July 28, 2019.
Image

Orange can be beautiful.
Image

Here is another cut-away, with a blown-up, small portion of the original image as background.
Image

This started out as a portrait-oriented image. I used a larger version of the flower’s leaves to fill in the sides.
Image

I expanded the sky upward to achieve a 4:3 aspect ratio from the 3:2 original.
Image

This wheelbarrow is only one part of a “crew” display containing 76,840 Lego bricks. I’ll show the rest of the display next time.

This Lego display was part of the scene including the wheelbarrow shown last time. The figures were life-sized.
Image

This peacock is made of 68,827 Lego bricks. I darkened everything but the peacock so you could see it better.
Image

What lake scene wouldn’t look better with purple pop flowers?
Image

You can’t go wrong with a lake, a bridge and trees.
Image

These rabbits are not made of Legos. They are a permanent fixture.
Image

I thought about cloning out the green goo on the lake. Just pretend it isn’t there.
Image

They are all vying for attention.
Image

Maybe a little tired.
Image

I have no idea what these things are, but they sure are pretty.
Image

Even the trees bloom in this place.
Image

Powell Gardens has a lot of benches, in case you want to sit for a while.
Image

This heron statue stands on the edge of a fountain’s waterfall. Because the background was ridiculously busy, I grabbed a 4:3 section of the still water and used it for a cleaner background. I cut away everything above the waterline except the heron and an oval, containing his shadow.

See how nicely purple flowers go with faded wood?
Image

They are nice even up close.
Image

One stands out.
Image

Hangin’ in there.
Image

Taking to water.
Image

Lakeside beauties.
Image

Standing alone.
Image

Another standout.
Image

At least one columbine is in focus.
Image

Another view.
Image

This dragonfly is made up of 27,788 Lego bricks.
Image

Cone flowers like to pull you in.

Do you know how long the LEGO exhibit runs?

Yes. The Lego Bricks presentation lasted from May 1 through July 28, 2019. I remember reading in a magazine that another presentation will take place from September 21 through October 20, 2019. It is "Fall Fling: Through the Looking Glass." Here is what their website says about it: "Follow Alice down the rabbit hole and into the magical world of Wonderland where things are not always as they seem! Enjoy an artistic display of nearly 800 pumpkins and other fall botanical favorites, arranged to tell the story of Alice and her topsy turvy trip into Wonderland." I was surprised to see how many events and presentations they have. Their web site is at https://powellgardens.org.

They don’t look like roses, but they are called shrub roses.
Image

Even spindly cone flowers are nice.
Image

Must be a relative.
Image

Roses, visiting the lake on their day off.
Image

Showoff tree.
Image

Orange is pretty.
Image

It looks like a dock, but no water.
Image

Marriage ceremonies take place in this little chapel.
Image

Trapped in a glass ball.
Image

My son is more interested in the sign than in the pretty tree.
Image

While I do sometimes blur backgrounds, the camera did it this time.
Image

This is a life-sized deer with her fawn. Along with the stag (to be shown next time) they are made of 84,442 Lego bricks.

This is the last batch of photos for Powell Gardens.

Here, we have the stag made of Lego bricks. The mom and fawn were shown last in the previous post.
Image

The flowers are real. The background and shadow are fake.
Image

This flower displays really nice color.
Image

A Lego butterfly. Let’s see. How many bricks? 39,708.
Image

Like aliens.
Image

You can’t hide from me!
Image

Where’s the lapel?
Image

Bold statement.
Image

This little guy is a permanent fixture in the garden.
Image

Right atcha!
Image

The birdbath and critters are made of 14,802 Lego bricks.
Image

Close-up of the critters. Isn’t the squirrel cute?
