KC photos 1860-1880 wanted - searching for Pearl St. etc

Post by johndawson »

I've been, I think, through every image at the KCPL website and in the Missouri Valley Room and still can't find what I'm looking for. Maybe someone here can help? I'm looking for images of the businesses on the levee ca. 1860 - 1870, hoping to find one showing either the Jarboe or J&P Shannon (my g-g-g-grandfather) store, first located in 1862 at 'the SE corner of Delaware and the Levee' and later, in 1867, they constructed a 3 story building at 'SW corner of Main at Third.' I've come close and think I can identify the buildings in some photos, but what I'm looking for is signage, definite evidence of either store. Both Shannons and Jarboe are ancestors of mine. Also looking for photos of Pearl Street , which ran ran east-west and was situated high atop a bluff north of Second Street, just west of the present day location of Walnut Street. John McCoy built a house there, also Jesse Riddlesbarger (I have a great photo of the Riddlesbarger home) Looking for anything related to Pearl Street. (Please don't tell me to go to the library site or location, been there done that!) Hope someone can help. Thanks.

Sorry that I can't be of any help with your request. Just wanted to say that I knew some lovely folks by the name of Jarboe in Cameron, Missouri while growing up there in the 50s and 60s. They owned one of the two theaters in town, The Ritz.

Have you checked with the Western Historical Manuscripts or the folks at UMKC? They were very helpful when I was researching some things years ago that I couldn't find at the libraries.

EDIT:
David Boutros is the guy that helped me about 7 years ago.
