Melting Pot

Post by KCPowercat »

Went to Melting Pot last night for pre-valentine's day.

First off, it's a very "romantic" place....almost everybody there was couples...they do have some huge tables for big groups that might be fun as well. It's very dark and you are pretty secluded from everybody else.

2nd, almost everything comes 'for 2'. I didn't inspect the menu that much but what I did see came priced for 2. All of those meals come with a cheese course, salad & main meat entree. The one we got also comes with a desert course.

Our meal was very good all the way through. The "everlasting fondue" we got came with your choice of cheese fondue (they all look good) that you can dip bread, fruits, veggies in. Next was a pretty solid salad, then the main course came with shrimp, filet, chicken, salamon, and some other marinated beef. You can also add lobster tail for $10 (do it)

Service is amazing because the waiter pretty much has to start each course off for you in the fondue pots.

Price is a bit high. We had a bottle of wine and our meal and it came to $150 with tip, so it's not a "first date" type of place....the meal itself is like $80 and then add the lobster tail for $10.

Good place but there are plenty of great places I can drop a franklin at that I will be at. It would be fun to go with a big group sometime though.

Overall: *** (out of 4)
Service: ****
Food: **- (2.5 because I have to cook it myself???)
Value: **-

My pre-Valentine's Day was spent eatin' at Lidia's last night in the Freight House District. I love the whole set up...have eaten at that Fiorella's Jack Stack location a couple of times now. My actual V-Day will be spent at Stanford's Comedy Club out here in Overland Park seein' the "Human sound-effects machine", Michael Winslow from the Police Academy films. However, tommorrow I'll be in the city again to have dinner downtown at Italian Gardens before goin' to blow a few bucks at the casinos. Feelin' good about spendin' my dollars to help fund Bartle Hall :D
The Pendergast Poltergeist Project!

I finally divorced beer and proposed to whiskey, but I occassionally cheat with fine wine.

I just has a post-Valentine's dinner at City Tavern on Saturday night. I had been there twice before shortly after they opened last year. They changed the menu a bit in the meantime, and I must say that I was pretty disappointed with this last experience.

If you're craving fresh oysters, then its probably a great place to go. Otherwise, there are better places to go for meat/seafood/chicken dishes. The food wasn't bad, but it just didn't seem all that special.
