That was such a poor venue that many who wanted to see band didn't want to seem them in that venue.

PARKINGGGGGGGGGG!

and

PnLLLLLLLLL!

No where on earth has a business survived when there is competition and limited parking within 20 feet of the building.

It doesn't even make sense. The Beaumont is directly adjacent to a parking garage and across the street from a big surface lot.

It's from Hearne Christopher - the guy gets off on pretending he's got his finger on the pulse of KC society.

I know. But it's one thing to say people don't want to go somewhere if they have to look around for parking -- that's a judgement on the tastes and tendencies of people in KC. It's another thing to say that the Beaumont doesn't have convenient parking -- it's like he hasn't even been there.

i made a comment re: the parking, and HC changed it to "questionable parking" and commented that it's more that the surrounding parking options, like the garage and sun fresh lot, are "dangerous" and crime magnets. so in one fell swoop he was able to combine two paranoid KC cliches.

Hearne, himself, is a paranoid cliché.

It was just a crappy venue to see shows - or do anything. Honestly, the best shows I saw there were the ones that were sparsely attended. That's never a good sign for a venue.

And the damn stage was entirely to low for a venue that large. The stage at the Riot Room has better sight lines. And that's saying something.

Yeah, the general consensus from friends about the place itself was pretty lukewarm.

Wow, I wonder how did I manage to survive going to Green Room and sitting outside on the patio for trivia night all these times.

I agree with that. The one time I went was in the warmer part of the year, and it was stiflingly hot in there, something I might have put up with in the past, but not so much anymore.

I went to a Cheap Trick show there several years ago, & we're all in line waiting for the doors to open. Hearne came thrashing thru the line ( literally shoving people out of the way ) to get in. He met resistance from the guy at the door, & pulled the "Don't you know who I am?" trick. The guy at the door said ( and I quote ) "I don't give a fuck who you are. We're not open yet."

Everyone in the line laughed & laughed. And Weasel Boy skulked away.

So yeah...I can confirm he's been there.

Shitty location for a show, BTW.

I've seen a couple of really good shows there and a bunch of not-so-good shows. My favorite was the They Might Be Giants show a few years ago where they performed Flood. An awesome cross-section of nerd love, with second and third generation TMBG fans.

I must have seen 10 shows there that would have been better off at someplace like smaler. Portugal the Man killed it at RecordBar but got lost in the Beaumont, despite a much larger stage set.

not shedding any tears over the beaumont closing, but i do fear that space will be empty for a long time. i really can't imagine what could fill it, other than another concert venue - and by all accounts, no one wants that. i wonder if it could be broken up into multiple spaces relatively easily.

They had already broken off a separate bar area in the back. That could probably be brought on line pretty quickly.

I think if the space had a better sound setup, it could be a decent venue, but every show I saw there sounded terrible.

rumor has it (on reddit), Manor square wants to chop up the Beaumont club into a couple of restaurants. Westport could become quite the eating destination if this is done well.

Also, somebody was putting out feelers to turn America's Pub into an indoor mini-golf and bar.

Sounds like a good idea. So where are they moving the booked touring shows? Pollstar still shows a few Beaumont shows listed...

Edit: Looks like The Darkness is moving to Uptown.
