Re: KANROCKSAS
$179 per ticket? and the promoter expects to draw 100,000 people. ha!
90% of those artists have performed in KC in the last couple of years, too.

Re: KANROCKSAS
How does this compare to Bonnaroo? I believe they attract well over 100,000 but they pull people from all over the country.
I like the idea and the acts but i don't like the fact that it's in early august, why not hold it around late september when its a little nicer.
Maybe this could be the Bonnaroo of the Midwest

Re: KANROCKSAS
Sounds suuuuuuper lame. Lou fest(or whatever it's called) has a much better line-up, is cheaper, and has a better setting(not the Kansas speedway)
Re: KANROCKSAS
bonaroo attendance is about 80,000. it was lower than that the first few years. the "Kanrocksas" folks think they'll get more than Bonnaroo in their first year, apparently.brewcrew1000 wrote: How does this compare to Bonnaroo? more artists are slated to be announced, but so far it's not bonnaroo level, yet.
i hope it's a success and a boost to the regional economy, but it sounds pretty lame to me.

Re: KANROCKSAS
Another thing that will hurt this, lollpalooza is the same weekend, which has lady gaga and green day for headliners.
Re: KANROCKSAS
Definitely not my cup of tea - and will not argue with you on setting (because I haven't seen either) - but the Kansas lineup of Eminem/Black Keys/Arctic Monkeys/Muse/Flaming Lips etc. is a better festival lineup than The Roots/TV on the Radio/Deerhunter/Cat Power. It will draw more people.nilsson1941 wrote: Sounds suuuuuuper lame. Lou fest(or whatever it's called) has a much better line-up, is cheaper, and has a better setting(not the Kansas speedway)
If it doesn't have street-level retail, it's an abortion.

Don't get me wrong, this will be super popular. It just seems like a really bland line- up to me.

Yeah. I mean, people go to Rockfest...nilsson1941 wrote: Don't get me wrong, this will be super popular.

Re: KANROCKSAS
It just looks like they grabbed various festival acts from 2007 and put them on one bill
Re: KANROCKSAS

Re: KANROCKSAS
The only way I am even halfway interested in this is if the next set of bands is less on the Muse/Eminem/Perfect Circle side and more on the Flaming Lips/Girl Talk/Black Keys side. I hate festivals in 95 degree heat, and being surrounded by Muse and Eminem fans near a NASCAR speedway sounds like some layer of hell to me. The only band in the lineup that is even close to up and coming or newly relevant is Girl Talk, and he has released three freaking albums. I also saw him last year at Grinder's (also saw Black Keys), so it has even less appeal.

Re: KANROCKSAS
But if the Kansas Speedway can get one more concert like this, they will have an anchor tenant! I'm sure KCK is just thrilled that they built a Speedway for concerts.
KC is the way to be!

Re: KANROCKSAS
How did girl talk get wrapped up in such a lame festival?
Re: KANROCKSAS
Arctice Monkeys, anyone? That's a pretty kickass band IMO.

Re: KANROCKSAS
Actually, there are quite a few bands I would go see (some again), just not there, then.

I'm not sure I understand this argument. Most all touring acts play big markets every couple years. Occasionally, for the huge festivals an act will come out of retirement or reform. What are your expectations for a music festival at the KS Speedway?chrizow wrote: 90% of those artists have performed in KC in the last couple of years, too.
The pricing is definitely an issue, but I could see this being a very popular event. It's just unfortunate they picked such a remote, crummy location. But overall...this is still a very good thing for the region. I would bet downtown hotels will get very busy during this event and there will be spin-off business for P+L, cabs, and potentially the airport.

Re: KANROCKSAS
Anybody know, will the stages be in the grass or in the speedway area? I know the camping will be in the grass lots and assuming a couple stages not in the speedway itself but can't find that info....wondering if a trip in and out to see Girl talk would be possible.
I'm more than fine with this being a remote event.
