Westside Local - Restaurant & Beer Garden

Post by KCLofts »

Noticed that work is underway on the Westside Local Restaurant & Beer Garden. It's just north of the Los Alamos market at 17th & Summit.

Nice outdoor patio should be an enjoyable place to sip cocktails when the weather warms up.

spoke briefly with a couple who said they were opening a restaurant near this area that will focus on local ingredients and beer pairings.  sounds like this is probably the place.  i am glad it's moving along, it sounded like a great concept.

One of the partners was a longtime bartender at Free State before he and his wife lived out of the area for a few years. I bumped into him a few months back at FSB and it sounds like it should be great.

Edit: That's him on the KIVA Permit. Great guy.

the beginning of June barring any unforseen issues.  I will post the opening date as soon as it is set in stone.  I'm confident it will be one of your new favorite spots, especially the beer garden (w/ 6 picnic tables that seat 8 each).  see you there soon.

We passed health inspection today!  Plan to open to the public start of next week so we can stock the kitchen & bar.  In the meantime check out the website: http://www.thewestsidelocal.com/
I will do my best to confirm the opening day as soon as it is confirmed.  The website will also announce "Now Open" on the homepage when we are.  See you there :)

Any place with Bell's Two hearted on the list gets a thumbs up from me.  I am intrigued by the Brocclli Fritto

That's an outstanding beer menu.
If it doesn't have street-level retail, it's an abortion.

... and I'm moving in a few weeks to just a few blocks away!  What timing!

Not to mention this is pretty much my ideal local hangout on paper, food and drink-wise.  I could get down on some mussels, oysters, and pretty much everything else on that menu regularly.  I didn't know about the Free State connection prior to seeing the website, but I am now even more excited.

Wow a very nice beer selection!  Menu looks interesting as well. I hope this place is as awesome as I envision, and I have a feeling it will be. Will the beers rotate?  I agree with Lenexa on Two Hearted. That one should be permanent.

So.... the KCRag-exclusive pre-opening (open-bar?) gala is on Monday night?

TKC blogged photos of the interior...

This place will quickly become VERY popular if the execution is right. It is so "on the money" for the type of food, location, and atmosphere kc is developing.

People from the burbs coming downtown and seeing places like this means so much more than kc live! as downtown begins to look more and more localized, unique and attractive.
