I'll be playing basketball outdoors at "Hospital Hill" during the noon hour if any of you kids want to do something a little different over your lunch hour.KC wrote:Should be the best weather of the year for first friday....

Even COOLER was when OZFEST came into town and parked it's rigs on McGee in front of the Hyatt, just outside my window and across the street from my building.

Wow! I can't believe how many people were at first Friday. What an event. I felt like I was in a real city.

FIRST FRIDAY TOMORROW - Don't forget
Dan,
the art galleries in the crossroads (38 I think) are open till 9pm the first friday of each month. Altough new exhibit opening are not necessarily then, it is a big social event. Many galleries have wine and beer, and light snacks. The freighthouse restaurants have before and after gallery dinners, some have live music. This last friday, the sidewalks were completely filled with people, spilling out onto the street in many cases. Everyone, from teenagers, to art institute folks to older couples are mingling and having an awesome time. It is a lot of fun.

First Friday was absolutely packed! I think this has been the most people I've seen so far in the Crossroads. The word is really startin' to get out. I plan to take my wife's family next month. Jus' wish the galleries would stay open until 11pm, some had to literally push people out the door at 9pm.

Would it be acceptable for a guy like me, that claims to know next to nothing about art, to mingle and check out the scene?

You have all types of people checking out the scene. Even middle-class JOCOers.StL_Dan wrote:Would it be acceptable for a guy like me, that claims to know next to nothing about art, to mingle and check out the scene?

It was packed. This area could really take off but you can still see it needs more density, more multi-level parking and WAY more night retail. It was very cool to see so many people and I couldn't find a space to park. How can high-rise res. developers NOT see this place as THE neighborhood to build ASAP? Hallmark/CC should have a 30 story finished by now just north of thier current location and another one getting ready to start.

residential development is beginning. Don't forget, the Western Auto lofts and related developments, the 1819 lofts, the lofts at 1800 baltimore, the new apartments at 20th and Wyandotte, and the Popcorn lofts, the Rieger building, and the potential development at Hotel Monroe. It is coming, slowly but surely. More is happening all the time.

High-rise development would destroy the Crossroads neighborhood. It would accelerate the current trend of artists being driven out by rising property taxes, and make it more expensive for the retailers that are asking for. It would also destroy the character of the area. A part of Crossroads' success is that it doesn't have the bland high rises in the central business district.Royals Fan wrote:It was packed. The Crown Center master plan does call for at least one other residential tower, and the CC development would be a great place for that. In the crossroads, infill buildings, reflecting the current buildings, would be ideal.
The crossroads is slowly but surely turning into a great neighborhood. We picked the right time to move down here. In the 16 months living in the crossroads, the energy just continues to build. In a few short years, this will THE place to be.
