For some reason they have a strong following here in KC, and the video is like a love letter to the city (and 96.5). Nice shots of the skyline, P&L and some surrounding neighborhoods.

Great band. Haven't listened to 96.5 in years so had no idea there was a tie in. I got into them when they were featured last year on All Songs Considered and Later, with Jules Holland.
I wouldn't normally bother with this, but what an enjoyable douchebag.

not so much dummy. the KC metropolitan area is the counties of Jackson, MO and Wyandotte(but you can have it if you like, nobody here wants it) and and Johnson in KS, and yes I know Johnson isnt Kansas City proper but it is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area, but by all means I hope more people will try to school me about the CITY I FUCKING LIVE IN!

I can't really commend 96.5 for anything. They only play certain artists within a few weeks of the KC show, and it seems like they have the same 100 late 90s songs on rotation every time I have tuned into the station. For instance, the National will come to town, and they will play three of their songs for a few weeks, then poof. Granted, I rarely listen to the station, but I keep wanting it to be decent. It is a shame that Sonic Spectrum is no longer on 89.3.

Perhaps I need to give Alt J a better chance, but it sounds like one of those bands I could never get into. I pretty much want to shoot the stereo when I hear Breezeblocks. What happens to a band when their music is overplayed is just as important as what it sounds like when it is underplayed.

Isn't Sonic Spectrum on 96.5 now?

Yes, Saturday evenings, followed by Lazlo's Hard Drive. Both are generally good shows depending on the particular set list.

I should have spelled it out better. I wish Sonic Spectrum was still on 89.3 because I listen to that station quite often, and the show was much better without commercials.

Robert Moore is a genius at what he does, but I often miss the show because I am not generally turning the dial to 96.5. It would be my dream for him to run the entire station, but that is not likely given the current state of radio. There are very few cool stations that are not public radio stations or hyper-local one-offs.

I like those Saturday evening shows but almost always miss them. To meld both bobbyhawks and grovester's comments, in my opinion 96.5 would be better if it sounded like Lazlo's Hard Drive. I've heard enough RHCP and Nirvana to get me through the rest of my life.

Their ratings have been in the tank for most of this year, and dumping a lot of 90's stuff was one of the remedies. Though they still play a bleeping lot of Sublime for some reason.

It does seem like 96.5 has gotten a bit better as of late, cutting down on the overplayed 90s music and playing more new stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I love some 90s music - but I really don't need to hear Lightning Crashes ever again. I found it funny that they would have the 90s at noon, and the rest of the time still have 2/3s of the music be 90s or early 00s.

Though I rarely catch it, Sonic Spectrum is great (as always) and Lazlo's Hard Drive is usually good - but I can't stand Lazlo when he opens his mouth. Has anyone heard the Jackson vs Johnson segment he does on his show? Dumbest fucking thing on the radio this side of Rush Limbaugh.

Eh, I like it when they banter and tell stories. I don't like it when they get into politics because they seem somewhat ill-informed and tend to make a lot of blanket statements. I like that they play a variety of music during the show too. Especially on Fridays when they do the segment where they play new songs they've received in the mail.

The "banter" versus music ratio seems way out of whack.

I know what you mean. Sometimes it seems to flow, other times it's more like:

I've taken drives across town while that show is on my radio and not heard a single song. It's ridiculous.

why listen to the radio at all anymore? with satellite radio, podcasts, ipod playlists, or even CD's, one can basically go without hearing radio banter or ads forever.

even if a radio station played good music, between the ads and the banter they play like 4 songs an hour. and the chances of liking all 4 are slim to none. seems like a terrible product.

my thoughts exactly. if you have a smartphone you can just plug it into your car (or play it through the radio) and constantly listen to pandora, spotify, podcasts or some other similar service...or you can use the TuneIn Radio app and listen to any radio station in the world...
