https://www.kansascity.com/news/busines ... 31274.html

The reasons given; overbuilding of restaurants, labor shortages etc... seem to be national phenomena and not necessarily limited to KC. I don't mind the loss of the chains (Ruby Tuesday - I was surprised they are still around) but hate to see Bread & Butter concepts and Bristol's parent having issues as well as other KC staples (Fred P. Ott on the plaza).
Have brought up for the last year or so that it seems restaurant growth in City has been at a faster pace than population growth. With retail harmed by online, restaurant growth has been a national trend. But that seems to be hitting its limit, at least in KC. Survival of the fittest...

Personally would like to see fewer corporate restaurants (including B&B Concepts (rather sterile food)) and more variety of small eats, local counter eats, obscure ethnic eats, quainter small neighborhood restaurants that could still be destination, etc.

Building owners also need to setup smaller spaces for restaurants, especially the Plaza. Many restaurants can't afford mega spaces anymore, even in KC. There's a place for the mass appeal mega restaurant spaces but there are maybe too many in KC.

Is B&B really all that corporate? They have 3 restaurants, an event space and a food truck. Never been to Stock Hill or Urban Table but I've really enjoyed Gram and Dunn. At least they mostly engage local food and restaurant equipment companies.

I'm good with fewer national or semi-national chains. In most cases, they add very little to the city's cuisine options but for whatever reasons, these seem to be among the favorites particularly in the burbs. They also contribute less to local economies because they contract nationally for food and restaurant supplies and ignore local companies.

The restaurant curse of 88st & Metcalf continues as another eatery closes - The Boardroom.

Sounds like Shawnee is going to be stuck with Chili’s and Applebee’s as our two sit-down restaurant options for the foreseeable future.

I stopped reading when the petition organizer referenced a 'dinamo effect.' The owner of Rockstar sounds pretty bad - I had never heard any of the allegations against him.

Rock Star burgers was pretty bad. I thought the food was subpar, the service subpar and the atmosphere/inside was dirty

Add Hogshead to the list. Never got a chance to check it out, doubt I'll be able to before it's gone.

Says 'too much overhead'. The Plaza and other KC locations need to scale down the restaurant sizes in half. Some corporate restaurants can deal with it but even some of them want smaller spaces.

Telling your customers that you have the best burger in town (fries, too) is a recipe for failure.

Hogshead was kind of overpriced for what they served. It was a decent space, wonder if lack out outdoor seating hurts in that location
