OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino
Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino
Downtown KCK would be an irrelevant place for the casino, as it is too close to the MO casinos. A location would be wanted that will cut off 15 minutes drive for JOCO gamblers. Indian Springs would fit the bill especially if they really wanted to do something for the eastern part of town.

i think the city would benefit from a downtown location if they want a serious catalyst for redevelopment, which they have yet to snag. otherwise, stick it in the prairie.moderne wrote: Downtown KCK would be an irrelevant place for the casino, as it is too close to the MO casinos. Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino
I have lived here all my life, put it at Indian Springs and it will die, people will be afraid to go. I am sorry, the area has a bad rep. Downtown there is just not enough room, that I can think of, and I agree it is too close to KCMO, and not close enough to JoCo. Best location is Village West area, the added revenue will help the entire county, not just the west. The point is for it to be a major success.
Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino
Why the hell is it that whenever you meet someone in KCK they always start the conversation out by saying how long they have lived there. I just dont get it... The same could be somewhat true of people in KCMO but definitely not to the same extent.
Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino
Probably because it is so unusual for people to stay in KCK. It is like a badge of courage

The City mill levy has decreased every year for 7 years and will continue to go down, because most politicians make that a promise in their election campaign. If the property tax mill levy isn't going down then you won't be reelected.KC0KEK wrote: Are WyCo homeowners starting to see a decrease in their property taxes as a result?
However the county has experienced significant rise in assessed valuations, which has led many homeowners to still pay more in property tax or at least the same as they were.
This leads to the perennial question, do you want cheap taxes along with property with no value that you can't sell, or do you want a bit higher property tax and property with real value that you can sell easily and get your money back and may be a little bit of appreciation?
Do people prefer to own property depreciating in value just so they can pay cheap taxes?

The indians are renovating the Scottish Right Temple into a casino set to open this fall with the UG's unofficial blessing. They are using the massive green marble columns as a focal point for the gaming floor.
The casino will be adjacent to Village West I can gurantee you that, hence the agreement with bonner and edwardsville to share the revenue. Otherwise there would have been a fight over the casino location, now edwardsville and bonner will just let it go in at VW.
They won't put the Casino at the Woodlands (although there may be a proposal to that extent) because the Woodlands will host slots seperately from the destination casino.

Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino
thats the place. the state histroic preservation authorities and city planning staff have no say, so lets hope the Indians don't trash this historic building designed by architect and former Kansas City, KS mayor W. W. Rose.
Rose was assoiciated with David Peterson and did business as Rose and Peterson.
Rose also desinged a Carnegie Library on Minnesota between 6th and 7th that was razed in 1966, the original Wyandotte High destroyed by fire 1934, the 1914 Bethany Hospital building and his last and considered finest work -Memorial Hall.

You could be right, I am 50. I have seen KCK go from a thriving city to trash and hopefully now we can come back. Maybe we mention how long we have lived some place, because we have seen all the changes and know the mistakes the city has made in the past.justin8216 wrote: I hear people from all over the United States say something to that extent, typically older.

Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino
the plot on the northeast corner doesn't appear to have anything on it except one house and farmland.

Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino
Isn't this where the Indian casino was going to go?
Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino
pretty sure someone said that one was going in an old building in downtown KCK. the $250m figure matches what the UG set as the minimum cost for the city-owned casino (or however the ownership will work).the_shadow wrote: Isn't this where the Indian casino was going to go?
Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino
Ownership on the RFP was Kickapoo Nation.
