Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

That picture could be from 1953, not 2013.

The sign has been up for awhile, but Collison reports that Commerce Bank is going in that NW Parcel on Johnson and Roe, across from Gateway. I didn't know the building will have additional retail as well.

Are they still planning to raze all those businesses in houses on the north side of Johnson Drive there?

This thing is beginning to stink. Obviously potential tenants are being very wary, as they should be. Then again, it looked like that PrairieFire project in O.P. would never happen, and it is well under way now.

Mission Gateway plan changing
Foundation work had been expected to begin by now, but Valenti said it’s been delayed by the decision to build a larger retail building and the ongoing process of achieving an acceptable guaranteed maximum on construction costs.
Valenti also said increasing costs may prompt him to seek additional incentives from the city, but no decision has been made.
Utility work is expected to begin in March.
The original timetable announced in August called for the 150,000 square-foot Wal-Mart at the corner of Johnson Drive and Roe Avenue to open in spring 2015 along with some other stores. Other announced retail tenants include Toby Keith I Love This Bar & Grill, a Sprouts Farmers Market and an Aspen Fitness Center.
The apartments are scheduled to open in the summer of 2015.

The Pitch: Mission Not Accomplished
I still remember going to one of those first meetings when I lived right by this. That was two houses ago. He was a pretty slick salesman and the original idea was a terrific one. He has just failed to deliver in any way.If Tom Valenti says something, you should listen.
What the New York developer behind Mission Gateway says about the retail project at Roe Avenue and Johnson Drive, in Mission, isn't really an insight of what will happen at the 26-acre site. It's a strong indicator of what won't happen there.
Valenti bought the Mission Mall site in 2005 and tore it down, promising to remake it into all kinds of different things that haven't panned out. Only last summer did dirt start moving at the barren site, which has been covered by weeds for the last eight years. But in mid-December came another announcement of yet another delay.
Anyone who has followed this project — even from afar — shouldn't be surprised.
Delays in development projects aren't unusual. But Valenti has broken more than his share of promises regarding what the site would be and when construction would start. He's getting $37 million in public money — and possibly more — to build Mission Gateway, so it's not just a matter of a private businessman who's slow to get his plans moving.

I expect the Walmart to stay a part of this plan and all that other silly salesmanship stuff that makes it worth caring about to go. Then add a standard strip mall or another Big Box. Maybe Lowes would like to leave RP as well? This project has become a waste of a great opportunity to build an energetic multi-use center in NEJoCo.sbrundel wrote:If it wasn't so sad it would hilarious.

You can't find a Shopping Center here with all those in the same one. Boot Barn hasn't announced any locations yet. Olive Garden none are for sale or empty. No former Bakery is coming a Pizza Ranch.
