interesting, thanks for the link Max.  These appear to be fairly basic improvements but should make a difference and modernize the place nonetheless.

I like this ongoing "hipification" of Corinth Square and PV.  I can't believe it's taken so long for these realtively affluent inner-ring KS burbs to start generating a bit of neighborhood/retail character that the rest of the city can enjoy too...

Doesn't look particularly ped-friendly, but it does look somewhat less bad.

It doesn't look like they will be drastically changing much, but the biggest change to walkability is probably the reduction of Somerset from four lanes to two, and the addition of a few medians on Somerset near Hen House.  I remember this section of road was a major blind spot before, both for pedestrians and cars.  It should slow traffic, and the four lanes were completely unnecessary.  Spending time on the patio at Mely's has always encouraged people in the neighborhood to walk over when it is nice out, and I would think that the new look could encourage more people to actually walk around the rest of the area as well.

Somerset has already been reduced from four lanes to two with the medians. Predictably, people have bitched about it.

FWIW, that bank building south of Hen House (not the Commerce) is in negotiations to be sold - I think its been unoccupied for awhile. I believe they said it wouldn't be significantly altered however.

It has probably been 10 different brands of bank since it was built.  I love the changes to Somerset by the way.

It's called Prairie Village. Shouldn't most people be arriving on foot?

Kelly is on the city council. I don't know him from Adam, but with a remark like that, he has no business being on the city council.

Kelly is the voice of the NIMBYs in PV. He was thumped rather roundly in the last mayoral election.

The Einstein Brothers in PV Shops is now closed and they'll begin demolition this week in it for the Standees Movie Theater.

PV also approved a drive-thru permit for the building that will be constructed where Waid's once stood, much to the protests of some residents, including myself, who though a drive-thru kinda goes against the supposed walkability they were aiming for. They do not have a named tenant, but many think it will become a Starbucks (there is a Starbucks in the strip mall there that is always packed and is rather small).

All the renovations are now complete for Corinth and I'm very underwhelmed. Just a minor facelift, no real design changes to make it more walkable. Even the nice pedestrian walkways they created are made with cobblestone-like bricks so it makes it very difficult to use anything with wheels like a stroller or a wheelchair. The pocket parks are nice I suppose, but I'm not sure I even see those being used very much since they're right up against a lagoon of parking. Lane4 FAIL.

Einstein Bros. returning to the Starbucks space at the Village Shops. Starbucks will build a new building where Waid's once stood, but it will have a drive-thru, which should encounter some community opposition.

I believe the development plan for the new building with the drive thru has already been approved.

The SUV-driving girls of SM East will be that much more obnoxious for it.
