Re: Wizards could ditch Bannister site in favor of Wyandotte County
The latest plans for the wizards stadium have been posted.
http://www.wycokck.org/WorkArea/showcon ... x?id=24596
Looks the same as before except they threw up a few sections of "cut stone" to satisfy the planning staff's wish for a "pedestrian scale" at the street level.
The renderings look unimpressive to me. I hope the finished product doesn't.

i love how that massive pedestrian walkway spills out directly onto prairie crossing street; sure hope they do an appropriate mid-block crossing. at least they oriented the loading docks towards a drainage area.
we'll see if wyco is successful in retrofitting this area with "pedestrian scale" outside of the interior-focused legends walkway.

I don't speak "urban planning-ese" but I hope they do something more sensible with regard to traffic flow, ingress/egress than Legends. I get that the point is for people to park and stroll but seriously, if you need to get from one part of the Legends to another, it takes forever. We often drive farther, and into JoCo, just to avoid the crazy traffic/stop light patterns.

The article did not say where the 1000 jobs would come from other than the 45 are already there. Would these be new jobs for the KC area? If so, great.FangKC wrote: GSA makes pitch to re-use the former IRS building at Bannister complex

I would think they would have to be new jobs.....this would be great.

The USMC envisions a national, centralized location for all of its payroll, personnel, logistics and non-combat-related operations, said Floyd Means, executive agent for the USMC’s Kansas City Information Technology Center. Currently, the USMC has 23 regional support centers in the United States and its territories.Highlander wrote: The article did not say where the 1000 jobs would come from other than the 45 are already there. Ike Skelton should make this higher profile for election purposes. Not that it really helps his district but certainly the region.

I still laugh about any proposals for this part of the world. What a wasteland. Until the city finds a way to rejuvenate the area around Banister Mall, any development that did happen would be a failure. It might look pretty for a short time, but it won't be successful.
KCMO has proven incapable to make any part of South KC (south of 78th & east of Wornall) remotely pleasant. Every bit of it looks unloved and poorly managed.
Sure...a lot of cars drive past it, but the same can be said all along Bruce R Watkins and we have seen none of those intersections come alive with new development.
Put the ground to use as farmland. That's about all its good for (and it's probably no good for that either).

agreed. i can't think of another part of the metro where i'd rather spend LESS time. they're going to need something grassroots, especially if the metro keeps leap-frogging further south.slimwhitman wrote: I still laugh about any proposals for this part of the world. Looks very sharp, I think. Thanks for sharing.

Should we, maybe, change the name of this thread? I think it's pretty much a done deal at this point.

At the Cerner Town Hall meeting on Thursday, Cliff told everyone that the stadium would be completed by May.

Re: New Wizards Stadium at Village West
The UG is planning to issue $12 million dollars in federally subsidized private facility bonds for permanent Wizards parking facilities on speedway land. The details are being worked out, but the debt service is proposed to come from parking fees or ticket surcharges or a combo of the two.
I'm no expert but $12 million struck me as a lot of money to build surface parking lots even if the are designed to hold 3 thousand cars.

Updated photos + video of the new KC Soccer Stadium @the Legends
Hey guys, this past weekend I toured the new Kansas City soccer stadium (they say it’s still under construction till June 2011). I shot a quick ‘n short video blog to show you what the progress on the construction looks like. Enjoy!

Looks like it has a nice closed in feel which should make the place seem even louder and more energetic.
