Check it out.  Here's the latest about NKC's high speed internet service.  It's by far the fastest in the KC Metro and good prices too.  I'm impressed.

5 megabits up and down, for $35 a month? Wow! We'll see how that turns out. I signed up for service, just in case downtown is somehow covered.

I was curious as to how much those City View apartments were renting for so I emailed them and I just got a response back.  I was kinda shocked.  They want 699 a month for the small one bedroom units and the prices go up to 1299 for the large 2 bedroom units.  I don't know about you but I've seen this place and, although it doesn't look horrible, it certainly doesn't look like anything that is deserving of that much.  Shit man, you can rent a nice place in downtown or the plaza for that kind of dough and have a hell of a lot more than just a Ruby Tuesday's within immediate walking distance.

I actually posted a few pics of these in the northgate village thread.

NKC just keeps on rolling.  They are steadily making major improvements:

NKC to double size of police headquarters
By GLENN E. RICE
The Kansas City Star

New construction and renovation at the North Kansas City police headquarters will more than double the size of the facility and provide much-needed room for the city’s municipal court.

Construction on the $6.9 million facility began in September when crews demolished a garage on the north side of the complex. The work will expand the current operating space of 10,000 square feet to 22,000 square feet, Maj. Steve Beamer said.

Foundation work is almost completed. Construction of the building’s steel frame should begin within the next two to three weeks. The facility is expected to be done in April 2007.

The construction is financed through special revenue generated through gaming proceeds, Beamer said.

Mayor Gene Bruns said the renovation and construction work came at a time when the police department was expanding its operations and the additional space was needed for the municipal court and the police department. Hearings for the municipal court are now held in the council chambers, Bruns said.

Thanks to thier Casino, NKC is loaded. They are about to complete thier new citywide fiber optic network. Too bad every small city couldn't have thier own casino.

^ not just the casino.  They also have a huge amount of industry, probably more per capita than anyone else.  The daytime population more than quadruples when with 20,000 people working in a city of 4,000 residents.  The casino has certainly financed a lot of capital improvements like the library, community center, etc., but the city has a healthy economy beyond the casino.

The community center would probably be an inflatable above ground pool and a little plastic swingset if it wasn't for the casino.

My only concern is that there is some other very small municipalities in that area, talking like a few hundred residents, they have to deal with having  the casino in thier community, but don't get any of the cash money because it's not in thier city limits. At least NKC could do is offer these people resident rates at thier fancy community center. Maybe help overlay a couple of thier streets. Seems like the right thing to do to me. But hey those little enclaves are outside thier city limits why should they care. Right?

My impression was that there would be fiber optics going right up to peoples homes and businesses, which of course offers much more amazing internet speeds. Is that correct?

Sounds like from the speeds advertised on thier site, NKC is going to become a haven for internet gaming nerds. LOL The mayor of NKC in the future might even be a warcraft gamer in his 20's if enough computer nerds move to the city to take advantage of these blazing internet speeds LOL ;-)
Of course they would have to stop playing the game long enough to go vote. I have two brothers who spend most of thier life playing warcraft, and they have trouble making time to use the bathroom or sleep. LOL

Where is the city view apts?

Opps I'm talking about the North Kansas City Lofts.
I had a friend that lived in NKC loft apts. for about a year. He had a 1 bedroom on the 2nd floor, and it was a huge apartment. He had a dining room, and a living room 3 times the size of most. I got an application from the office for anohter friend but he was disappointed he couldn't live there because they are "income restricted" for low income residents. He was looking at buying one of the new townhomes in NKC and wanted the apartment to live in after  he sold his current house until the townhome was finished.

Ummm, thank you there Robin Hood.

It should be noted that Ameristar is located in Randolph MO, pop. 78.6 (give or take) I'm not sure what the agreement is there but last time I was through there they sported a new city hall and a couple of brand new Crown Vics, all outfitted with the latest in law enforcement and Police technology.

And for the record, Avondale could easily get a couple of their streets re-surfaced in a heartbeat. Its called annexation.

Wait a minute. We're talkin about Missouri here. I thought you, and I quote "avoid KCMO threads ".
