Urban North Development off North Oak Trafficway

Post by FangKC »

I am starting a new thread for the Urban North development on North Oak and NE 100th Street. It's significant in that the development is building green, modern-style, housing instead of the usual tan, peaked roof subdivision housing that is all around the Metro. The houses look like what is being built on Beacon Hill.

I tried to buy one of these but wife did not really dig the inside. They are super cool, but pricey.

Half garage-half house is actually a better ratio than our house, but we were building so we mostly faced the backyard on purpose.

When we were picking colors we drove through Longfellow and Hyde Park. Ended up copying the blue house at 63rd and Oak in Brookside for the color scheme. We caught people staring at our house when it was finished and saying they liked the color.

Our new neighbors took a super tudor house and repainted it. It was brown with white trim and stained glass front windows, looked like something out of Ren Fest. They repainted it a dark grey. It looks good in person.

There's a neighborhood in the Shoal Creek area where every house is a beige variant. Some are more green, others more yellow, etc. We liked none of the colors.

I don't know who the architects are for the Urban North houses, but suspect they might be the same as are being used on Beacon Hill.

They did indeed use the same one. Draw Architecture + Urban Design.
