Are they buying the city-owned land on the north side of that intersection?

Don't know who they purchased the land from, but it was purchased over a year ago. Mount Hope neighborhood 2943 Highland, northeast corner. Will be a very simple utilitarian building.

Oh, I was looking at the wrong intersection (29th and Highland), and not 30th and Highland.

Two new sizable development proposals for the East Side have just shown up in Compass:

A $50M, "Mixed Used Infill Development of single-family and small multi-family residential and neighborhood supporting commercial amenities in the South Vine Corridor", around 25th and Michigan.

And a $7.5M 60 unit townhouse development around 38th and Michigan/Woodland. Hopefully, this development could help revive the vacant commercial center around 39th and Woodland.

It really seems like East Side Development is starting to pick up. The Linwood Gardens affordable apartments development at Linwood and Michigan has begun construction.

From Compass.

For the Ivanhoe Townhouse Project:
https://compasskc.kcmo.org/EnerGov_Prod ... b=moreinfo

For South Vine MovementKC:
https://compasskc.kcmo.org/EnerGov_Prod ... b=moreinfo

Here is an article from June 2019 about the people behind the South Vine development. There aren't really any details there (or on Compass) about the development plans. I think both of these projects are in very preliminary stages. They do list an anticipated construction date of 9/1/2020, but we'll see.

Regrettably, the chunky old brick apartment building at 33rd and Paseo partially collapsed and then was demolished a couple months ago. It was the last remnant of multifamily pre-war housing between Linwood and Armour.

This news is a little old, but I don't think it has been posted here:

Developer plans $11.2M affordable housing renovation on KC's East Side

Steele Blue Eagle LLC, an affiliate of Denver-based affordable housing developer Steele Properties, would acquire and rehabilitate 82 affordable housing units in two urban renewal areas, according to filings submitted to the Economic Development Corp. of Kansas City.

Part of the project is within the Independence Plaza Urban Renewal Area, bound by Independence Boulevard on the north, Benton Boulevard on the east, Interstate 70 on the south, and Brooklyn/Garfield/Euclid/East 12th/Brooklyn on the west.

The other portion is within the E. 23rd Street Urban Renewal Area, bound by Truman Road on the north, Van Brunt Boulevard on the east, and I-70 on the south and west.

The project includes nine buildings, eight of which are residential, according to the filings. Six of the buildings are clustered along Prospect Avenue between Ninth and 12th streets. Three are along the 2400 block of Brighton Avenue.
The tax abatement is on the LCRA agenda for the meeting this Wednesday.

Developer plans rare market-rate apartments on KC's East Side
Community Builders of Kansas City plans to build what it thinks is the first market-rate apartment project east of Prospect Avenue in at least 20 years.

The Rochester on Blue Parkway will be a $12.6 million project across the parking lot from the 4001 Blue Parkway Building, said Emmet Pierson Jr., CEO of Community Builders of KC. The four-story, 81,400-square-foot building will have 64 units.

An established developer was working on an extremely large project in the east side before corona (not announced). Maybe the largest urban redevelopment project by area since Power & Light.

Any idea if it’s still going ahead?

In the long term I’m sure

What happened to the UCB/Draw development at Troost & Linwood? The renderings are off Draw's website but the page itself is up (but hidden).

It is now a Milhaus development (not sure if UCB still involved). It was just referenced in a BizJournal article about the Milhaus development at 31st and Troost.
Starner said the $8 million to $9 million project would be "catalytic," together with a 150-unit apartment development Milhaus is pursuing on a property less than a block to the south.
Not much info there, but the implication is that the project is still very much alive, although it is delayed and groundbreaking doesn't appear imminent.

I wish that the developments at Linwood and Troost, and 31st and Troost, were being built now. The retail buildings between those intersections would benefit from all the new residents. There are several retail spaces along there that would be great for restaurants and coffee shops with outdoor seating. The old Firestone building has that covered area that would be ideal for outdoor dining.

Was this on the north side of 33rd? Is anyone aware of development plans in this block?
