Discuss items in the urban core outside of Downtown as described above. Everything in the core including the east side (18th & Vine area), Northeast, Plaza, Westport, Brookside, Valentine, Waldo, 39th street, & the entire midtown area.

Okay, obviously barring any significant environmental or ecological disasters on or around your land.
Was told once that wood garden ties contaminate the soil and you should not plant food gardens anywhere near them. Not sure how big of an issue it is but have always tried to stay away.

It's nice that the Star is taking an interest, but I do wish they would do a better job of connecting dots between the articles they are writing. For example, the city has definitely done a poor job of encouraging development on the east side - but I've also seen when they do spend money, they're accused of trying to gentrify an area.

Beacon Hill, much? I consider that a success for market rate housing in the urban core. It was very controversial when it started with those renovated houses.

That's still controversial to some extent - creating an HOA of expensive homes inside a neighborhood association of inexpensive homes is still baffling and indefensible. It took years for there to be any kind of functioning relationship between the two, and the fault lines were along race and income level. I'm not sure the people in the NA don't feel like the city didn't gentrify the neighborhood.

I'm more disappointed that they didn't attempt to place the densest type of housing using townhouses on the entirely-vacant blocks instead of single-family detached houses. I would have preferred taller apartment buildings along Troost: 6-7 stories all the way from 24th to 27th. They still could have done some single-family houses on the vacant parcels in between remaining houses.

Those few townhouses they did build look too cheap. It' probably why they weren't popular.

On east side of 33rd & Paseo where they took years cleaning up brick rubble from demolished apartment is to be redeveloped as small apartments for people with disabilities and low income.

Work is still going on the Regis. They've been removing the bricks from the exterior wall on the west side of the building, exposing the concrete core. Presumably the building was in too much of a state for tuck pointing, and they're taking them off and resetting them. For a couple of months now the terra cotta facades on the south (front) of the buildings have been partially removed.

Apartments to be built on NE corner of 29th and Flora on vacant lot adjacent to Troost Lake park. Will be only for first year teachers with rent lower than market. Designer is a Leed architect with BNIM.

City working on deal with Wise Owl Ventures to build 32 homes and a rec center at 18th and Agnes. Rather see multi family or row homes on 18th but still glad the city is beginning to develop the lots between 18th and 22nd that feel completely empty.

Multi-family would be better seeing that there is a housing shortage. One could build quadruple the number of housing units.
