The perp seems to be very carefully research and selecting potential victims, so odd are he is out and about during the day scoping the neighborhood.

The theory is he works and/or lives in the community.

There are so many stories about what car this guy drives, etc posted on the web.  If it was known what kind of car he was driving, don't we think the kcpd would issue some sort of comment about it?  Just because there is a black man in the neighborhood doesn't mean that he's "the guy."  This shit is getting way out of control.  Some poor UPS guy or mailman is going to get hurt while he's minding his own business making his rounds because of the media creating so much panic.

I'm married but of the demographic that's being attacked and am more than worried.  But I'm not locking myself in a room full of mattresses and acting irrational.  People need to keep their heads screwed on here and stop freaking out.

Don't blame the media.  All of the reports I have seen have been factual.  It's people's panicked reaction to news reports that is the problem.

Yes but there is so much over-coverage of this that you can't anywhere or do anything without hearing about it.  enough already.

Yeah, I only see about one newspaper article a week and hear maybe 30 seconds on the local NPR update.  That doesn't seem excessive.  I actually watched the 10pm news last night and there wasn't a single mention of this story.

I think the perception of how much media coverage this gets isn't always the same as the actual amount of coverage.

KCPD are really making themselves look bad. Embarrassing.

Of course, the fact that the community have submitted over 400 (probably all useless) "tips"--apparently someone calls every time they see a black guy--probably isn't helping. The police have to follow up on these tips, folks. Don't waste their time calling on that big scary black guy riding on the back of the Waste Management truck. And no, he isn't stealing your trash.

Justin is a popular name. And I don't live in Waldo or anywhere else in MO. Thanks God.

How dare you! You make a mockery of what those 5 women went through by trying to use it to justify this man's vigilantism / stupidity and KCMOPD's and Waldo residents racism.

With attitudes like yours the range of victims will likely expand to include harassed and possibly seriously hurt innocent African American men and other bystanders caught in the crossfire when ultra paranoid people start shooting off all the guns they have been buying.

The news is reporting surging sales of handguns to Waldo residents and people reportedly living in one room of their house with boards on their windows. Am I the only one who can see this is a recipe for a disaster the likes of which I don't think the community will be able to bear.

Police said they are looking into why it took officers more than 40 minutes to catch up with Justin.

-from the KC Star.

I will tell you why.

Because KCMO police dispatchers are idiots. I doubt that the KCMO police dispatcher ever dispatched a unit for Justin's call. The dispatcher was probably looking on a map the whole time trying to find Quindaro Blvd in KCMO. That is just how stupid they are.

Following is a true story and why I hope to God that I will never need emergency services when visiting KCMO.

I was at a popular KCMO city park one time when a stranger approached me as I cleaned my car and told me his friend was hurt if I could call 911. I dialed and immediately asked for emergency services to be sent. I did not know the name of the street but told the dispatcher I was at Penn Valley park near the Lake. When the stranger took me to his injured friend I found him by the Scout Statue. The 911 dispatcher acted as though they had never heard of Penn Vally Park or the Scout Statue. I was dumbfounded. How could KCMO police dispatcher not be familiar with these major landmarks?

I sent the victims friend down to the street to try and flag down police cruisers driving by that supposedly couldn't find us while I administered chest compressions on the victim. The victim ended up dying from his injuries because it took 30 minutes from the time I first dialed 911 to the time paramedics finally "found us". When the paramedics finally got there I was still performing chest compressions per the instructions given to me. The paramedics didn't even kneel down. They just stood there and stared at me. It seemed as though they weren't really ever looking for us. I was so upset.

The police held me there for 3 hours waiting for a detective who could come and take my statement. I was a bystander who had intervened to help the victim. After they let me finally leave the officer in charge told them to escort me to my car to make sure I didn't talk to the news media.

I thought they were trying to be nice by saving me from the media. I now realize that the real reason was they didn't want me to talk with the media was fear that I might talk about their botched response to my 911 call that cost this man his life.

When you first pulled this four years ago, you were also shot at twice. If you're going to be blatantly full of crap, at least be consistent. Oh yeah, this happened around the same time as your carjacking, didn't it?

KCPD appears to be making a concerted effort to have a nighttime patrol car presence in Waldo lately. I cut through the old neighborhood on my drive home from choir rehearsal two nights a week, and for the past two weeks, the area between Gregory and 85th has been fairly crawling with squad cars...and not just along Wornall, and not just at the QT/Sutherand's parking lot, either.  This has been on Mondays and Tuesdays between 9:00-10:00 p.m. the past two weeks.  I'm wondering if they're keeping up this intensity of patrol into the wee hours.

There is a good little article from a former FBI agent in the freebie Sun newspaper today on this topic for anyone interested.
