I've given the Johnny law guys plenty of grief but I liked them standing up against the status quo and the business league somewhat to demand these even crappier bars be removed.

Sure it was for money reasons but the Kelly's of the world just let it all go as long as they can push it a block off their front porch.

The owner of Yard Bar was accused of being a racist because he had a "do not play list" that DJ's had to follow. It basically said no hip-hop. So he goes out and rebrands Kaws into Bridgers, an all hip-hop bar. It is hard to explain the disappointment that one certain genre of music in nightclubs seems to attract all the violence. That genre is also beloved by all races for the most part. Well, maybe not today's version of hip-hop.

Westport just can't win. They put up metal detectors and they're racist because they're targeting a certain group of people. It's a never ending cycle.
Bring back the Shadow... saw a lot of bands there in the 80's/90's

The CIDs that pay for the security theater are a mix of sales tax and assessments, so they might be able to afford it if the bars reopen. If no bars, there would be no point.

I heard the owner of The Russell is going to be opening a new concept at 39th and Main (although not sure if it is 3933).

43rd & Belleview may be changing hands. Would love to see all 4 corners of that intersection redeveloped.

816 Hotel is no more. A business license was issued for Hare Krishna KC Hotel LLC dba Tapestry Hotel by Hilton for that site. A zoning compliance letter was issued in November indicating a sale.

I expect a renovation will be required to meet the new brand guidelines.

Not surprising, their 316 Hotel in Wichita is becoming transitional housing.

So in short, a 3-story honky tonk imported from Nashville’s Lower Broadway.

I’ve been learning more and more about what westport was like when it was originally redeveloped in the 70s, and it’s sad how it has devolved from a very mixed use neighborhood into almost exclusively bars

This cowboy bar makes no sense to go into Westport.
