Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project
Parking is already overbuilt. Let’s add more and dilute the $25 million transit investment.

And yet the authority has parking as the very first and second FAQ items
https://kcstreetcar.org/about-streetcar/faqs/
It's also worth pointing the owner of the land and the primary funder of the streetcar expansion are one and the same and one of their primary missions is in the area of transportation. Think about what it means if they're ok with adding parking.

I am 100% on the let's built less parking bandwagon. However, its a chicken and egg problem with useful regional transit and/or bringing jobs and amenities downtown. We are sub 1 space per bed now which is progress.

There's transit to the area today and the location isn't important enough to be listed on the schedule or run more than hourly. Look at how there's an entity willing to pay for one seat transit to UMKC because the bus system doesn't provide this.normalthings wrote: ↑Thu Oct 14, 2021 1:07 pm I am 100% on the let's built less parking bandwagon. 77 is on the planned redesign to end earlier in the day. Workers will be more likely to drive home as a result.
If we want to drive less parking demand downtown start on the supply side.
Not replacing one bus and buying bikes every year could provide 250 bikes per year. Get a match and KC could rival NYC for bikes in the system per capita in a few years. A program where apartments get bikes placed on site at no cost for providing fewer parking spots per unit would be an interesting program.
It's not just downtown that this is needed. NKC is also looking at rail because zero of the four bus routes go all the way to UMKC as well.
There's a brand new ~300 unit complex coming at 23rd/Swift. It's walkable to thousands of jobs + amenities and is within blocks of all 4 bus lines + the flex service.
It's getting 419 parking spaces. that's a little less than 1.5:1

Big project in the works
Consideration of Resolution Approving a Surface Parking License (Berkley Riverfront, Parcels 4, 5 and 6) and a Ground Lease with Purchase Option (Berkley Riverfront, Parcel 8 )

Both but not tall. Project on parcel 8 and surrounding 3 parcels will be parking (until developed).im2kull wrote: ↑Sun Oct 24, 2021 9:38 pmPhysically big.. and hopefully tall.. or big as in "unique"?normalthings wrote: ↑Sun Oct 24, 2021 7:28 pm Big project in the works

I don't know what besides a SKC relocation could justify tying up parcels 4, 5, and 6 (pretty much all the remaining land) for surface parking.

We took our family to the game last Friday and had a blast. My lasting thought from the evening was, “How cool would this be to have downtown”. Really excited the Longs are making this further commitment to the city and the players.

Love the openness of the entrance plaza - should be really active on match days. And optimistic to see the streetcar in the renderings!

Yeah, too bad Children's Mercy Park wasn't built there as well, could have been a great soccer complex and solidified KC as the soccer Capital of the US.
Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project
It’s a fun project. Will probably help them attract great players with dedicated facilities.
It does make me a little sad it’s not big enough for internationals, but one step at a time. Just move skc downtown already please.

11K capacity that is expandable is nice. And privately funded. Almost appears to be an Escher effect in first pic, the way the lower entrance sticks out.
