I love it. It would make a great urban hipster church too. It's edgy and has a double meaning!flyingember wrote:"Totally Nude, a book store where we uncover ourselves to Christ."mykn wrote:I almost hope the "Totally Nude" sign would stay. It's been a constant source of amusement (the sign, not the store!) since I moved to KC. It would be awesome if a cafe or a bar opened in that space, or Christian bookstore.flyingember wrote:I've decided one KPI for the Crossroads is when the "Live Nudes" shop moves because it's too expensive to stay open in such a niche business.

Yeah Hot Basil, Lemongrass and original Thai Place all doable, though I hear Lemongrass not as good as when first opened.

Isn't there a club still down on SW Blvd called BLVD Nights or something?earthling wrote:As in owned/operated by BLVD Brewing? Am guessing not but that is a sly way to try to tie into the beer co good name if someone else.

Wasn't this illegal under MO state law (alcohol manufacturer can't own and operate a restaurant)? Or has it changed since we last had this conversation? I know there's some loophole that allows them to rent out their name for the KCI restaurant.

@Jeremy_Danner
@TheKCRag Not us. We can't keep people using the name BLVD as we're all located on SW BLVD. Danny Edwards BLVD BBQ is a good example.
Re: Misc Crossroads News
I have absolutely no idea what the menu or concept of "BLVD Tavern" will look like, but my hopes are low with a name like that. Hoping to be surprised, that space is very cool and in a recently blossoming chunk of the xroads.

It must be a Four Points hotel thing because they have a Boulevard Grill out here attached to the Manhattan Four Points.KCMax wrote:earthling wrote:As in owned/operated by BLVD Brewing? Am guessing not but that is a sly way to try to tie into the beer co good name if someone else.

Looks like Grinders may get a new parking lot soon.

Edit: Is that building actually a parking garage? In Google Street View there are vehicles visible in the windows of the top floor.

Too bad, there were some great old cars on the second level of that building (visible on the ground in the picture). I hope they aren't too damaged.scooterj wrote:Looks like Grinders may get a new parking lot soon.

Also, it is a little disconcerting that an errant auto can take down a building.

That building was originally a car dealership.

There's a couple wider-angle photos in the Pitch post about it

Re: Misc Crossroads News
If the building has to be demolished, that would be a good location for a new apartment building.
Re: Misc Crossroads News
It is a freaking corner folks. Please jump off the demolish bandwagon.
There are lots of people who will expound on the need for demolition for reasons that have no basis in engineering and construction realities.
This isn't a marble edificed Taj, but it is a sweet 1910 era industrial structure.
Looking at photos and extrapolating, this looks far more readily salvageable than the Crosby Hotel.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
No way was I advocating for demo, I hope to hell someone can get an engineer to sign off on saving. I am quite concerned about the pitch photos. Hopefully, the fact that it was perhaps built for auto storage originally will work to the buildings advantage.
It is without a doubt a beautiful building.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
Hopefully the damage is isolated to a couple bays and the rest of the building is just a little worse for the wear.
