You can bet I'll be in there to see what's to be had, and for what price.

Have they even begun working on it yet?  I haven't passed through that stretch of Wyandotte for awhile.

The old awning is down.  I assumed they were going to start when they cleared the old crap out, but I forget, projects take forever in KC.

The sign doesn't say anything about Holiday Inn-- just "The Aladdin Hotel. Opening Spring 2007"

I hope they've scrapped the Holiday Inn plans and are working on becoming an indie, boutique hotel-- maybe with an affiliation to the Historic Hotels of America.

if you can trust KMBC's reporting, their article from 5/3/06 states that it will fly the holiday inn banner.

In relation to what?  Projects take forever in every city......everybody is obviously anxious but dang, I'd rather it done right than fast.

They've been working on the exterior quite a bit but I haven't seen much going in/out of there yet as far as interior renovations.

I walked past there last week, and the cleaned facade looks gorgeous.  It really freshens the front of the building and the entrance.

There is and ad for this in the Visit KC guide says opening this spring.  Anyone have a date?  Lists the Zebra Room full service restaurant and the Martini Loft in the mezzanine.

Thier website says opening Spring 2007...

193 "vintage hip" rooms and a roof garden ballroom with rooftop deck for 225.  It looks like it is decorated in a nice contemporary style.
Sounds like a great addition to DT.

There is now a vertical black and white sign hung down the front of the building that says "The Aladdin."  Looks like it might be old school neon, but I was in a hurry and didn't get a good look.

I completely approve of the new sign.  It doesn't appear to be neon though. It's glass/plastic panels that are backlit, but in the shape of an old fashioned type of sign. It's modern but historically appropriate for the style of building.  There also appears to be roof brackets installed that are placed on the top of the building for another sign.
