Interesting. Maybe the scope has expanded.

Couldn't that building demolition just be a completely separate thing, and not related to Hotel Bravo?

IDK. That's why I posted it here in case someone knew.

The water connection kill permits are a little hard to decipher but it almost seems like most or the entire row of buildings is getting cut off?

Helzberg owns the former JVS buildings. I suspect this is just demolition and nothing to do with the hotel site (which is owned by Kauffman Center).

Yes, I realize Helzberg is a major patron.

Hopefully this means there will be mixed use development on Baltimore separate from the luxury TIF hotel proposal.

This probably belongs in the Crossroads thread, but the 1 story building catty-corner from Cellar Rat has been torn down. The former dime store building remains for now, no fencing around it.

Is this hotel actually being built then without incentives?

The demo is not on land owned or under control by the hotel developer (at least publicly).

According to Kevin Collison, the "Baltimore Dime Store" building is to be demolished next.

Baltimore Demo Leaves Question What’s Next?
A small commercial building at 1626 Baltimore owned by philanthropist Shirley Helzberg has been razed and a pre-demolition application filed for a building she owns next door, leaving Crossroads neighbors curious about her future plans.

The 14,000 square-foot vacant building at 1626 Baltimore was torn down within the past couple weeks, and a pre-demolition application for the larger, former Jewish Vocational Service Dime Store at 1608 Baltimore was filed with the city in early February.
...
With Helzberg owning much of the west half of the block along Baltimore between 17th and 18th streets, it would be a major redevelopment site for a potentially large project.

And Helzberg has still released no plans at all?

She has not. Relationship with the neighborhood has been sour way before the Film Row demolition, so we'll be the last to know.

A few things to note:

- These parcels are not in her W. 17th TIF
- GDAP was updated to allow unlimited height here (reflecting the streetcar zoning change)
- Helix will probably be the architect

I read it as anything from tomorrow to tearing down and doing nothing for a long time.

This is either inaccurate or a second project on that block. Could make sense to be the later with all of the demolition going on there.

Apparently this is still alive. Vockrodt says it will be heard on June 23. Still asking for TIF. Still unclear if they have support

Still find it hard to believe they think they are going to get TIF or any incentives. The current group of city leaders is not going to back this project, and honestly for the property they are wanting to build they should not get anything. Maybe there is some sort of low impact incentive they could offer to help show support but nothing big for sure.

I heard Whitney Kerr speak at an event about this project (pre pandemic) and he couldn’t fathom how the City couldn’t support their TIF request. He was seriously pushing the kool-aid on how much money would be spent downtown by people staying at this hotel.
