So turning a hotel into a hotel wouldn’t get credits? I don’t understand
Can't say I really do either.

Thanks for sharing. This might be my earliest memory. I can still picture watching a building get demolished downtown, but I would have been about 20 months old at the time of this demolition, and I have a hard time believing I could remember something from that age. Was there a similar brick building demolished downtown in the immediate years after this? My dad is pretty sure it was the Muehlbach we watched, but maybe it was another one...

Any idea when it's supposed to open? Seems like they've been working on it for a while

^185FT from 13th and Wyandotte to the top. Not a bad size. Glad to see that things are progressing steadily. I look forward to foundation work starting as well as demolition on that parking garage.
On another note, the backside of the office building sure as a lot going on. That’s just my opinion.

Would be nice if that’s the case. Get this part of the sizable project underway and you’ll eventually have a pretty active block.

The new hotel will be “Unbound collection” by Hyatt. This is a high end full service hotel and our location will be the 10th in the US.

Based on the website, the hotel will be named “Hotel Kansas City”. Could be a nice name since a few other cities have hotels that have the city name in them. Hotel Chicago, Hotel Saint Louis (those are both Marriott Autograph Collection hotels, so different). It will be interesting to see if that name holds true.

There have been two previous hotels with that name deviation downtown -- Hotel Kansas Citian. The Mark Twain building was once Hotel Kansas Citian for a time, but while operating as a hotel was also known as the Continental Hotel, and the Inter-Continental Hotel. The other location was south of 12th Street on the west side of Broadway in the building more commonly known as the Commonwealth Hotel. That hotel was named Hotel Kansas Citian as well.
Mention of Hotel Kansas Citian at 11th and Baltimore (1936).

I think they just do that monthly out of habit now. I've never seen a city more marked up by utility locates.
