The ground floor facing Main actually looks pretty good. Nice materials, lots of transparency for the lobby and coffee shop. Eager for the March opening as this corner needs a jolt of activity.

Passed by there yesterday via the streetcar and the SBUX shelves were full of merchandise...

Those walls look ominously and mundanely sterile, not a good color complement with wood/leather tone either. Doesn't look like a comfy/cozy place to hang out. Maybe that's the intent?

Also...it isn't open yet. Maybe the decorations aren't completely installed.

New Downtown Hampton Features Balconies, Streetcar-Savvy Starbucks
The new Hampton by Hilton opening soon on the northeast corner of 16th and Main already has booked a high-profile guest, a full-service Starbucks by the streetcar station.

The $25 million, 132-room hotel is expected to open later this month or early April. The South Carolina developer had hoped to have it completed in time for the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament but construction proved longer than anticipated.

At nara for the first time in awhile and realized this Hampton eliminated their skyline view. while that may suck for nara there his no way a ground floor place should have had a view of the skyline that long.

The other lot that's closer will fall soon, too -- it's now owned by Brad Nicholson, who bought and then sold the lot that's now a Hampton Inn. He also owns Nara's building and the rest of the block.

Imagine buildings everywhere...

I was at Nara last night and thought the same thing. I also wonder if Naras own lot will get developed at some point. I know it’s narrow, but it’s prime real estate. Could that land be combined with the Nicholson block and have a garage underneath that Nara could have access to?

Looks to be of decent quality. The balconies are a nice touch. The only thing I have a problem with is the white cement board/stucco. Looks like it could've been of a darker color but it will look fine.

The design has more visual variation than the typical Lego block trend (5/6th Grand as well), with appropriate sidewalk integration. One of the few that turned out as good or better than the renderings. Interior of the Sbux rather bland but can be easily changed over time. More of these with different variations would be nice scattered about downtown lots, just not a row/wall of them.

One trend I'm surprised we're not seeing more of for better/worse is modular container buildings like 34th/Main. As cost effective infill goes, some parts of downtown could maybe use more of those with different variations scattered about... though not a row/wall of them.

I like this building simply because it's not a flat surface box. There is texture and contrast. It's mostly that there is some visual interest, and also it's the right size for a corner building. It's not perfect. There's something about the top of the building that bothers me.

The ground level stonework and the balconies are very nice, but I'm not a huge fan of the walls. Some different materials would've done wonders. I could see something as minor as making the brick much darker adding a lot of sophistication
